First of all, all day yesterday we had to call in and fax stuff to switch our insurance coverage regions since we just moved to NY. Got that all straight but then my insurance tells me I have to establish care with a primary care doctor to get a positive pregnancy blood test BEFORE they'll give me a referral to an OB/GYN. WTH!! Why can't the OB/GYN office just do my bloodwork?? Ugg! So I call a million doctors offices but none of them are accepting new patients. The last one on the list is, BUT my first appt has to be a meeting w/ the doctor to establish care... I guess she asks questions and I can ask any questions I have. I don't have any questions I just need proof that I'm pregnant so I can go to an OB/GYN!! And the first appt isn't til NEXT Thurs. and the receptionist couldn't guarantee that they can do bloodwork at that appt. OMG, I'm so irritated!! So I have to wait til NEXT Thurs. for this appt then probably make ANOTHER appt for God knows when to do bloodwork, THEN they have to fax something to my insurance proving that I really am pregnant, THEN I have to wait for my referral to an OB/GYN, THEN I have to wait until they have an appt available so I can find out when the HECK I'm due!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Total emotional pregnant breakdown... can't anyone make anything easy?? I'm gonna be out of my first trimester by the time I get an appt, UGGGG!!
ETA: I called the dr's office and gave them a piece of my mind... I now have an appt tomorrow at 2pm so I can get the ball rolling on the OB/GYN referral. Funny how that works!
That is so frustrating. I hate insurance companies.. they make things a million times harder. Can you just make an appt with an OBGYN anyways?? I always use the insurance website to find an approved doctor then I make my own appt and I never have any problems. I dont even have a primary care doctor yet.. and I've lived here for a year!
I'm sorry that you have to deal with this.. hopefully the time will go fast and they can just do the bloodwork next week! I want to know how far along you are too!
how lame!! Can you just go to like a walk in clinic and have your blood work done??
or go to the emergency room and say your cramping reallly bad and tell them you just took a test and found out your pregnant and your worried something may be wrong?
That sucks, especially since you're not sure how far along you are. On a side note, I was out of my first tri before I saw a doctor with Nicholas. They don't take you until you're 12 weeks here. I think I went in June and then I didn't see another doctor until September because I moved and they needed to get all the paper work in order too.
Im so happy you called and yelled at them! That is so dumb - you would think they would want you to get in ASAP - you are pregnant for heaven's sake! Did they say they would do blood work at your appt? Or do you have to come back. How hard is it to take a quick vial of blood - give me a break! Let us know what happens!
The turn our country has taken in regard to health care is utterly terrifying...
In KSA or Egypt you could just walk in during the office hours of any OBGYN and get a blood test and ultrasound right there on the spot...
This is one thing that scares me about coming back to the USA b/c I've gotten so used to the accessible, affordable, and high quality health care I've experienced here.
Anyway, I am happy you gave them a piece of your mind...you know what they say about the squeaky wheel.

UGH! Tricare is definetly more complicated when there is no military hospital. That's how it was with my first. I'm glad they got you in, but I'd build up nerves of steel girl. You might need them. GL!
