Has anyone thought of potty training, or have an idea of when they would like to start?
I have a potty seat on layaway and I should be getting that pretty soon. Once I get that I plan on starting Marilyn with associating the toilet and whatnot. I'd like to have her potty trained by 2.
What are you ladies thinking?

I've heard that babies are usually pretty good at letting you know when they are ready to be potty trained so I don't think i'm really going to put a time period on it. I'm obviously hoping it will be sooner than later though! My parents say that I potty trained them. One day I just took my diaper off and told them I had to pee. If it could only always be that easy lol!

couldn't have said it better!
I also hear boy are harder to potty train. I don't want to put pressure on Holden because I hear that just prolongs the process, so hopefully he'll want to before he's 2

I'd like to have Ava potty trained by 2 as well. I mean she will obviously do so when she is ready, but I am going to be trying in the meantime before she is 2.

DITTO that DITTO!!!
I think they need to have good communication skills too.
Plus, I heard babies who are very fussy about a wet diaper are pretty quick to potty train because they will tell you.
Kami can sit in a wet/pooper diaper all day and really not care.......so this could be interesting
She does however cry when her diaper is off sometimes and your like, "what is wrong".....she's peeing and was trying to tell you that she was going to go and she wasn't covered.
We are going to just go off her cues and give it time......by kindergarten would be great!!!

My friend has been exposing her son to the toilet for a couple months now....when he wakes up in the morning she puts him on his potty and he pees...and sometimes poops!! And he is our babies age!!! Born Sept 15!! I bought one for Brodhi and once Alexis goes back to school next week and we are on more of a schedule I am going to try this with Brodhi. I will not force him to do anything he doesn't want to...but like you I just want him to know that is what the toilet is for and hopefully he will want to use it like a big boy!! We shall see........
I started potty training Alexis somewhere around 18 months and by her second birthday she was completely done with diapers. The funny thing is that they CAN be potty trained by 18 months....in fact in the 1950's over 90% of all children were potty trained by 18 months!!!!! Craziness!!

We are aiming at having her trained by age 2 as well.
We will get her a potty for Christmas and introduce it then. Tho, in a way she has already been introduced to the toilet and what its for. We always keep the bathroom door open when we use it, and make a big deal when we pee. She gets excited for us, and claps her hands.
We did the exact same thing with my son, tho we gave him his potty for his first birthday, and used it on his bday too! He was potty trained day and night before 18 months. I think he was the exception to boys are harder to train. He did, on rare occasion, have an accident, like every child does.
I have a feeling Jorja wont be as easy to train. And i am in less of a rush with her too, since she is my baby, and i wont be having any more babies in diapers, until i have grandkids. I will listen to her, and watch her cues as to when she is ready.
But for now, i will enjoy my lovely fluffy bottem baby!!!

This is too funny that you mentioned this because I was reading something about it this morning. I get an email from Babycenter.com each month. This is what is says:
3 questions about: Toilet training
Should I be thinking about toilet training?
The short answer: Not yet. Unless you began infant potty training with your baby between birth and 4 months, it's probably best to wait until your child is between 18 and 24 months old. Many experts, including physicians at the American Academy of Pediatrics, say that's when most children are developmentally ready for toilet training.
Why was early toilet training once more common in the United States?
Before 1950, most children in the United States were toilet trained by 18 months. And today, most African, Asian, and European babies are trained well before their second birthday. So why are American babies and their parents so attached to their diapers? Many think it's due to the changing views of prominent experts and pediatricians — who now advocate a gentler, more "child-centered" approach to potty training — as well as the invention of disposable diapers.
How will I be able to tell whether my baby is ready for toilet training?
There are two components to readiness — the physical and the emotional. Your child needs to be both physically aware of his bowel and bladder urges and emotionally ready in order for potty training to be a success. Signs that your child is physically ready include fairly regular and predictable bowel movements, along with his ability to wait at least two hours to urinate, to completely empty his bladder when he urinates, to help you pull his pants up and down, and to get on and off the toilet or potty chair. Other signs of readiness are an ability to understand toilet-related words and to follow simple instructions. In terms of emotional readiness, your child should show signs that he's aware that he's going in his diaper — he might squat in a corner or even tell you with words or gestures that he's gone. He might become upset when he soils his diaper. Given those "prerequisites," few 11-month-olds are considered developmentally ready to learn this important skill.

I'm not in any hurry, especially with having a boy. We'll probably "ask" for a potty for Christmas just so we have it on hand whenever we feel the time is right (and hopefully someone else can pay for it...lol). I also think we may get a training urinal as well. I just don't know if we can fit them both in our bathroom. lol

I really havent put too much thought into potty training. I figure that he will give me some sort of sign as to when hes ready.

Hey Jess!
I saw someone selling one used on craigslist, but I wouldn't buy a potty used from a stranger (eww) so I looked it up. It has wonderful reviews! On a couple websites it had 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Honestly I haven't given it much thought since I am still desperately trying to get my DS trained before he turns 3! I might start at around 18 months. As long as I stay consistant from the begining I think Allison will be easier to train than spencer has been!

We tried potty training Ari about 18 months. What a pain! Finally, we left it up to her. She was poop trained before her 2nd birthday, then about a year later she was pee trained! She would NOT poop in her pants. She thought it was so yucky!
But we are gonna leave it up to Isla tolet us know when she is ready.

Unless he starts showing signs of being ready before, I'll probably wait until next summer when I'm off work. He'll be almost two...I'd really like to have him trained by two. We'll see!
I started reading about infant potty training. Anyone read anything about it? I had no idea it even existed!!! I can't imagine "potty training" a newborn. Wow!

I bet my nephew would like that urinal!
I am going to do like a lot of others and take Ally's cues on it. It's very seldom that I get a bathroom break alone anyway, so she will be familiar at least with me being on the potty. LOL I think around 18 months would be a good age to start telling her what mommy's doing, I suppose.

I think Mac will do it early but it's up to her I swear she would start now if we wanted because she always wants to sit on the potty but honestly I know she is way to young. Maybe 18 months we'll start

My big boys would LOVE one of those urinals at home LOL! The rule in my house is unless it is a urinal you SIT on it. (Except for Dan of course...but the rule there is if you miss you clean it up...cause I don't miss.)
As for when to start potty training, all I have to say is From my experience--it has nothing to with what I want

Ty got a potty for his birthday and I will probably put it out in the bathroom sometime in the next few months just so he can start getting used to it. We already make a big deal about the big boy potty but in a fun way to get him excited....though right now he just seems to be interested in the toilet paper! lol We will go off of his signs for when he is ready to officially start training. He has started (in the past week) being bothered when his diaper is wet. I know when he hsa peed because right away he starts pulling at the crotch of his diaper like he is trying to get away from the wet....everytime it happens I go check and the diaper is warm like he JUST went. Not sure if that is the beginning of him showing signs of readiness or just finding something new because pooping sure doesn't bother him..he fights me NOT to change that!! hahah

I've been working with Aislinn for a few months. We have about 3-4 successes a day now. When I ask her 'pot pot' for potty she will pull on her diaper and climb on to the seat herself. She also stares down now when she does pee in her diaper so she is getting better at giving cues.
