When Evan had that snotty nose that wouldn't go away they did a nose culture on him. I got the results back a few weeks ago but didn't think to even research what they said he had. They told me it was positive for H Flu, so yesterday I looked it up. It is the bacteria that the HiB vaccine is for. I read that half the cases of HiB result in meningitis. Reading this made my heart sink. DH had meningitis when he was 16 and was actually pronounced dead before he was revived. Since he was vaccinated for it he only got a sinus infection. It just makes me really grateful that I did vaccinate him for that because who knows if he would could have happened.

I'm glad everything ended up ok. Did he first get sick right after he got the vaccine? Sometimes the vaccine itself ends up giving the kids a minor form of what they are vaccinating against.

I'm glad he is ok! I chose to vaccinate Jett bc I believe the risks of not doing it is too scary. Just in case.

How has he been feeling now? I hope he's all better. I know that snotty nose hung around for a long time. I'm so glad he's ok. Meningitis is scary business. I can't believe that happened to your DH. That is really scary.

by the time they got the results he was almost done with the third antibiotic and he was better. He's been on claritin and singulair since then, his dr said he would probably need the singulair for a few years. But I think he's coming down with another cold or something. They told me that if we can get through this winter with only 2-3 rounds of antibiotics then that's a good thing

When I told Dh about the meningitis he said it made him sick to his stomach. I think that really scared the crap out of him and now he's going to be worried every time he gets snotty.

I'm glad he got better and I hope he's not getting something else. That sucks he has to be on Singulair but hopefully it will help. Do bad allergies run in your family? I know they can be hereditary. I really hope he won't keep needing antibiotics. I know it's no fun to give them to them.

Oh and I can imagine that scared the hell out of your DH. After what he went through just the word meningitis probably makes him sick.

I have allergies, but not extremely bad. Matthew also has them-he has allergy shiners under his eyes almost all the time.
