Kellan still takes a bottle (just twice a day for nap and bed) AND we're still on formula.
While I can sneak milk into a bowl of cereal or something, he just flat out refuses any kind of milk: whole, skim, soy. And, it seems to constipate him a lot. I tried doing the 50/50 formula & milk, but he was on to me.
I switched to the "older infant" formula just for the change in nutrients.
Weston and Eliza, after they finished nursing stayed on the bottle until the age of 2 but at least I was able to switch them to milk. And honestly, I have NO recollection of how I weaned them from the bottle!!!! Kellan's sleep routine is a dream and I know the bottle is just a habit but I don't know...I just feel bad about breaking him of it. He drinks from regular sippies and cups all through the day so I know it's not the bottle per se...just the comfort of it he associates with sleep time.
I'm not really too concerned about the bottle or the formula but I thought I'd check to see if I have the only freaky kid on the board.
Well Jazy is still FULLY nursing, so yeah shes still on the boob!! I dont know how Ill EVER wean her!! She also doesnt drink any milk, so I let her nurse as atleast I know shes getting something!!
Ben gets one bottle before he goes to bed. I have let him keep having it because I have a hard time getting him to drink much milk during the day. Even if that's all I give him he'd rather go thirsty than drink the milk from the cup but for some strange reason he drinks it fine from the bottle.
We don't do formula any more though. If Kel won't drink milk I'm not sure what to tell you. Will he eat other dairy products like yogurt? If so that right there can provide a lot of calcium.
Caden drinks whole milk, but still takes a bottle at nap time and bed time. We have a doctor's appt. on the 22nd of this month and I'm sure I'm going to get a talking to about breaking him from the bottle. I was going to try weaning him over Christmas since I'll have two solid weeks of the little guy I babysit not being here and I can focus on just Caden. If it doesn't work, then we'll try at a later date. Lee, I'm with you, I'm just not too concerned over him still taking a bottle. He likes it, it soothes him and it works.
We've been off bottles & formula for a while now. At 12 months, I weaned Megan down to just a bedtime bottle, then around 14 months we did away with that. Not sure what advice to give, just that IMO, I prefer to do it when the kid is ready, not when a book or ped tells you to. If you wait until the kid is ready it is SO much easier!!! GL!
Still on the bottle just at night before bed and occasionally gets formula still. The only way I can get him to take 5oz of rice milk or nutramigen is through the bottle.

I don't want to take away Ben's bottle either. It comforts him at night and we've had enough sleep trouble lately. I really don't see the difference between the bottle and some of the soft spouted sippy cups so I'm not worried about it. I wouldn't want someone to yank away something that comforts me just because they thought I shouldn't have it anymore.
I completely agree with Amie. It's much easier when you wait until they are ready. Ben only gets a bottle before bed (or if he wakes up in the middle of the night and wants it). I didn't cut out his other bottle feedings. He worked his way down to only bed time all on his own. So I figure when he's ready to cut out this one he'll let me know.
Maddie is still on the bottle. 1 8oz. bottle of milk in the morning, 1 6oz. bottle of 1/2 juice 1/2 water with lunch, and at night an 8oz. bottle of milk.

Actually this isnt always gonna work...If you dont make a cut off time for some kids, they never let go. Ive got a friend with a 3 year old who still gets a bottle at night! And she will even tell her if she wants a big bottle or little bottle and if she wants her milk hot or cold....I think its a bit ridicoulus and Ive told her that. She just doesnt want to make her daughter mad or hear her cry so she lets her have the bottle
I found it easy to switch Dylan right around 12-13 months and thats why I did it, it was easy with Mikaela to. If they were more dependent on it, then Dylan might still be on a bottle, who knows. But there has to be a limit, right? Just like with a paci...I think by like 2 years old, those things should be gone...for many reasons.
ETA: On the paci thing, I dread dread dread weaning Dylan from that....he is so attached to his paci's now and I am afraid of the battle ahead....
I know what you mean Melissa. I think your friend's kid was probably showing signs of being ready at some point and she ignored the cues. I really think sometimes people just don't want to let go of that last baby thing you know. I don't want to just take it away from Ben but we'll slowly work his way off of it. We've started working our way down on how much he gets in the bottle before bed. I'll reduce it all the way down to an ounce if that's what works eventually.
Oh and I dread getting rid of the paci too. Ben loves his so much. When he goes to sleep he has one in his mouth and at least one in his hand.

Eliza and Weston went off the bottle at 2 years old and I really don't remember any drama. Hayden had his pacifier until 4 which I swore I'd never let happen, but by the age of 2 the rule was that the paci NEVER came out of the bedroom and he had to be in his bed with it. He was okay with that. When he turned 4 we were SO scared to take it away and on his actual birthday we lost our nerve. However....that Saturday, after his birthday party when it was time for bed he refused his pacifier and told us, "I'm 4 now, I don't need it anymore" !!!! Apparently he didn't consider himself 4 until he had a party!
Hayden went off the bottle completely at 11 1/2 months. That is when he mastered the sippy and got plenty of milk everyday. I am really lucky that he did it soo well because DH was on a bottle until he was 2 1/2.
makena's been off the bottle since 10 mos. and formula at 11 she just stopped drinking it wouldn't have anything to do with it, So I started giving her milk and now she doesn't even want that.
