I have gotten Elijah strictly in underwear now.. He wears them to bed and everything.. My only problem right now is when I go out to the store or something or out to eat, I can not for the life of me get that child to go pee in the potty in public bathrooms.. I know he is very shy about it, and likes to do it on his own, but he will wait and do his dancing around and grabbing hisself, and refuse to go potty... Then he winds up peeing in his pants and I get upset that he refused to go, and now messed up his clothes.. Does anyone else have this problem? My Mom said to bribe him with a candy or something, but I don't like the bribe idea cause he already knows to go he is just refusing to go when he really has to go in public...

A lot of kids have issues with public bathrooms, very normal. I know he knows when to go but the issue isn't him knowing, it's him being able to use a public restroom. So, I agree with your Mom. Bribe him to go and then after he realizes it's ok, he won't need the bribery.

I agree. Go with the bribe. Bribe doesn't have to be candy or sweets. Could be just time playing a game or something. Joel is the opposite... he HAS to check out ALL the potties at every store. Drives me insane, but I am glad he goes.

Has he seen you use the pubilc restroom..Jayden didnt like using them at first either...I dont know what happened..I am thinking maybe it was him seeing me use it also and maybe him feeling more comfortable about it..cuz now he loves to put the seat covers down and get on it..

The public bathroom can be scary. The potties are really big and loud and it usually stinks in there! Ben didn't like them at first either and ended up having accidents but after a couple of weeks he was fine. We didn't have to bribe him but I think that could work if he's still having trouble.

Ivana refused at 1st and I carried around a travel potty on days i knew I would be out very long. One day she got over.

I've been wondering if it is the loud flushing of the toilets cause Elijah is terrified of loud noises.. Always has been.. Scared of fireworks the waves of the ocean.. So I am sure it has something to do with that. I have my dad take him in with him everytime he goes cause I want him to get used to it, and my dad will try to get him to go but it's a no go.. We even tried a lollipop today and he didn't go.. He just held it till we got to my parents house.. Alteast he didn't go in his pants..
