I know in some states the cut off makes it so some of our (not so) little ones have to wait another year-
so who will be going come aug/sep?

Are you ready? Are THEY ready?

I've been home preschooling Holden (the public pre-k system here... leaves a lot to be desired)- and he is more than ready to go, and I can't wait to NOT be the one teaching him lol.
However... I will miss him I'm going to be one of those lames crying on their kid's first day of school while the kid says "MOM! STOP IT!"

Jorja will start kindergarten in September. The cut-off isn't till Dec 31 here. She is more then ready, but I'm not sure I am. I can't believe in September, I will be seeing 2 kids off to school.

He's more than ready and so am I. He's so excited and has really loved pre-school. Our cutoff here is end of Feb of the school year they're registering for.

The only thing I'm not ready for is for him to take the school bus. DH says I'm being overprotective, but the town I live in buses all the kids from K-12 to a central bus depot then they get off and transfer to their designated school bus. I guess they have practice runs for the little ones before school starts, but seriously? No way I'm sending a 5 year old on a bus by himself to transfer on his own with about a thousand other kids. I'd feel different if I knew the bus was going from our home directly to school.

Kami is in her second year of preschool. She will be in SCD kinder in August, and doing summer school this summer again.

She likes school, but does poorly with change. I'm a little worried about a new teacher and a new classroom and students. The thing that is going to upset her the most is that her best friend will be in the regular ed class at another school........I'm not looking forward to the crying that I know will happen the first week or so.

Jenny, you have done a GREAT job with teaching Holden at home.....he is such a smarty He will excel in kinder!

I just signed Maddie up to Kindergarten screening. Did your little ones have to do that? We go the beginning of May for that.
I still have to figure out what we are going to do before and after school. The school bus comes at 830ish and returns around 4.
Angelica-I would be nervous about having to switch buses. Plus that seems like it would make the commute much longer
I think Maddie is ready for the most part. Some days she is so antsy, I don't know how she'll do with sitting and listening.
Jenny-I think because this will be the first time Holden is away from you that it will be more emotional. I cried the first day of daycare, but think I'll be ok for kindergarten.

I'm afraid Holden will be BORED in school lol. Or stubborn.
I'm not sure about a screener. I know we have to have them up to date on all shots, and they have to have a physical.
Reminds me, I need to get up to the school (it's playground is actually right outside my back yard) and register him. I've been avoiding it

Rachel is getting evaluated by a school district about 5 miles away from my house. My local school district won't take her. I'm afraid of Rachel getting bored. She is already reading so I am worried about her being bored in school.

Marcus missed the cutoff by 2 days here. He's actually not ready for kindergarten and I had been planning on holding him back a year. His speech is really keeping him from being ready. He currently goes a couple days a week to "school". It's a program the school system does that puts him into a school like setting and works on his speech with him. It's actually been helping a lot and he's doing really well. He's going to be doing preschool with them as well. He'll be one of a few "special needs" kids in a regular class. It's a smaller class with a few more teachers to help the special needs kids. He's ready for school in the sense that he's ready to learn, but his speech is just holding him back.

Adi, my son had a severe articulation delay when he started kindergarten. It was so bad his teacher couldn't understand him. He was more then ready to learn, and other then his speech delay, he excelled in all areas. He use to see a speech therapist through the hospital, but after he hit school age he was cut off, and had to see the school therapist. I requested that he receive therapy at school, outside his regular class time. His speech teacher pulled him aside 10 mins at the very beginning of ever school day, and worked with him. He was never considered special needs by no means, as he didn't require assistance to learn. I have to say this was the best thing we done, through him right into the kindergarten class and let him learn. On top of receiving the speech therapy every day, 5 days a week he was in school, he was in class listening to other people speak. It has in no way hindered his learning. My son received 3.5 years of therapy, and finished halfway through the first grade. Now you would never know he ever had an articulation delay. Just wanted to share my speech experience. We are now doing the same thing with Jorja, but she is no where near the severity as my son was. We are hoping she finishes therapy before September.

Marcus' isn't articulation, it's communication. He's really smart, but he requires someone physically showing him something rather than speaking to him if they want him to do something. He shuts down in large groups and I've been afraid of him getting left behind if I put him into kindergarten. I was thankful when I realized he missed the cutoff and wasn't going to be going to kindy this year anyways. He really needs this preschool class he'll be going to this year

I didn't realize there was more to his speech issues. I just thought with his tongue tie issues in the past it had hindered his articulation. I'm sure he will do great with preschool this year.

I think it's a good idea to wait.. I don't really think it's being left behind, he is pass the cut off mark.

I plan on waiting for Adriana to start school until next year also, she's 27 days pass the cut off.. I plan on doing the same for my son, who is a late October baby.. My son attends a similiar preschool like you mentioned and receives therapy (Speech and IBI) while he is there and at home. So far he has bloomed there. Our goal is for him to be like any other 4 year old when he starts Kindergarten. My son has a speech delay but he is super smart. I swear he never forgets anything, even down to the direction I'm driving.. I can't wait to see how well he does in school.

His tongue tie shut his speech down completely. He does have articulation issues, but it's mostly communication in it's entirety. It's hard to explain. I've got him enrolled in a special pre-K class that has about 20 kids in it. 5 with special needs like Marcus and the rest are regular kids. The class has 2 teachers, a regular teacher and a special needs teacher and then each has an aide. Marcus will get the exposure he needs from the other kids while having the teacher to help keep him moving a long with the rest of the class. He's in "school" now, 6 hours a week for a sort of head start program and it's helping a ton already. I'm hoping by the time he hits Kindy, you won't even be able to tell he had speech issues.

Zoey doesn't make the cut off here in Ok.. It is Sep. 1st and she was born on the 9th so she will be going to a pre-k program.
