Yep. All we need is for them to sell it to some psycho Islamic fundamentalist terrorists.
I can't wait for people to start saying this is President Bush's fault.

My DH was stationed in South Korea close to the North Korean border. That is where he went on his year long deployment. He was gone from April 05 to April 06. I'm sooooo glad he isn't there now!

There are a few on this board who are.....ahem.....older like me and it is you people who will know what I am talking about here.
I remember in 1980 and 1981 when Reagan was president and we were all so worried of a nuclear bomb hitting us from the Soviet Union. My town in Iowa was particularly worrisome because we were the homebase for John Deere, and it was said the Soviets thought we easily could convert from manufacturing tractors to manufacturing nuclear bombs instead...making us a potential target. We would do "nuclear bomb test drills" in school where we would "duck and cover" under our school desks. (like that would help!) We did these drills monthly, just as regularly as we did tornado and fire drills.

I remember doing those drills in the 70's! I always wondered then how they thought hiding under your desk was going to help. Now, they are supposed to have plastic and duct tape in every classroom to cover all windows and doors and supplies for 48 or 72 hours (in case they can't leave the classroom). That makes more sense.

I don't know about WW3 but I do believe that we will always be at war somewhere. I don't think it will ever end.

I agree! No matter what is going on where, there will always be something. I'm so glad we are getting out the military in June!

My husband is currently at the Pentagon. Apparently they don't have the technology to get one here yet, but Japan, South Korea, etc. should be worried.

We can't allow a loon have nuclear weapons. That was my husband's statement.
He also said that neither Japan nor S Korea can afford to escalate this. So, of course, they expect us to. We can't afford it either. It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

We have a lot of troops in South Korea already. I have no idea if they are combat troops and would be able to go in. I'm betting that there will be "talks" and the UN will demand they disarm, etc. Which, of course, won't happen. They'll give them a deadline... UN inspectors will go in.... just like in Iraq...
According to my husband we really don't have the troops or equipment to spare. I'm guessing, however, that there will be worldwide support and we won't have to bear the entire (or most of) burden on this one.

ya i read that a lot of other countries are very upset about this too so hopefully they help out and we can all banned together and support eachother. i don't think that they (N. korea) neccessarily has the equipment to start ww3 or the technology but i just hope we don't offend other countries or anything like that cuz it could escalate eventually. i just know it is bound to happen. it scares me to think about. like what world am i bringing a child into you know? i hope it stays somewhat calm for awhile. to all those in the military and armed forces i truly am sorry you have to send your husbands/family off so often. i do support our country and want you to know that i truly am grateful for the sacrifices made.

OK... am I the only ditz who didn't watch the news this morning? After this thread was started, I had to ask our receptionist to fill me in. Then everyone else in the office was like "OMG! You didn't hear about that???" Well, I have spent hours on Google News reading North Korea headlines, and I am now officially freaked out. Just the scale of danger we're working with here, and the idea of things that could happen now... the thing that worries me most (obviously) is that we're going to be blown away by some other country who WANTS us to nuke North Korea... then of course once we do it (and I hope we don't, but I wouldn't put it past us) everyone will be TICKED at us... then the bombs come a flyin. We are all pregnant... I would just hate to watch a nuclear cloud rise in the sky, knowing that its toxicity would more than likely deform my unborn child. I have SUCH an anxiety problem... please tell me to calm down! I know I'm going to have nightmares tonight. Nuclear wars have been my life phobia since I was 7 years old when I watched a program on TV about Russia, and will forever be freaked out. I am praying for our country extra hard this week...
