can you give me your level at 5 weeks? I am still waiting for my second number which I know will tell us what we need to know but for now I am busy chewing on the 1st number to pass time. It was 470. Seems kind of low. I know it is well within tge normal range but it is definitely on the low side. Combine that with my constant brown spotting, and I am just a little nervous.
Thanks!

I had mine checked, but not at 5 weeks so I don't know. I had mine checked right at 7 weeks by LMP and they were like 35,000. But then after not doubling and a US the dr changed my dates to 6w 1d so at that HCG test (if the U/S dates are more correct that would have put me at 5w 2d. Sorry if I made this more confusing then it needed to be. I hate HCG tests I think they cause more worry than not. If I were you and you are concerned talk to your dr. Otherwise try not to think about it. Everyone is different and can get totally different numbers. HUGS!
Well, the only reason I am worried is because I am having constant brown spotting. I have had spotting with all but one of my pregnancies and it has lasted up until 15 weeks. But, it has never been brown.
Also, I couldn't help but look back at my records of my last few pregnancies and my #'s were all much higher.
I am biting my nails waiting for the Dr to call with the second #. If it has doubled then I will feel much better. Still worried by the weird (for me) spotting, though.

I am waiting for my numbers as well. Last week I was tested at 4wk, 2 days and was at 338. I should hear back tomorrow afternoon.
As for the brown spotting, I experienced that with Charlie. I had it at 8 wks and then again at 12 wks. I was told not to worry (which of course I did). I also learned that many women have "old" blood spotting when they normally would be starting their cycles. Made sense for me at 8 wks and 12 wks.
Thanks! The nurse just called with my second #. It went from 470 to 1300 in 68 hours. So, that gives me a doubling time of just over 46 hours. Whew! Now I need to see a heartbeat. I will really be satisfied when I am holding a healthy baby.....but, I understand that I need to be patient for that. "Baby" steps, right?

So glad your numbers were good. I know just how agonizing this first trimester can be. Mine at 4wks and 4 days was 508, then on 4wks. and 6 days, 1437, nearly tripled, but it was a twin pregnancy.

You know, I have had 3 twin pregnancies. Only one baby survived from each one. We actually think there were four pregnancies that were twins because I bled and passed a pretty big clot at 9 weeks and had huge numbers but they never did an u/s to confirm. We saw 2 sacs with one pregnancy at 4 weeks but only one at the next u/s. In another pregnancy, we saw one sac at 4 weeks, and then 2 sacs with 2 babies, one strong, hb, and one faint. At 7 weeks, the faint hb had stopped. With the other pregnancy, I was told I had a blighted ovum. My levels were 18,000 and we only saw an empty sac. A weeks later, there was a baby with a heartbeat. When the baby was born, there were 2 sacs.
Although I know the odds are against me, I am secretly hoping for twins. I know a good indicator would be higher levels rising really fast. But, I have also heard that twin numbers are often in the singlton range, as well.
But, I would be over the moon with just one healthy baby, too.

At 4 weeks 3 days it was 3100 and at 4 weeks 5 days it was 3800. Didnt even come close to doubling at all, but still a healthy happy bean![/b]
When you say 4wks and 5 days, is that since your LMP? If so, that makes me really question my numbers! Now I am anxious for the phone call tomorrow. Sigh. I really wish I didn't have to take any of these tests. I didn't with my first pregnancy - and I really think ignorance is bliss.
At 4 weeks, 6 days, my levels were 234.
5 wks. 1 day=595
5 wks. 4 days=2000
5 wks. 6 days= over 5000 (RE's machine only goes up to 5,000)
I think your numbers are just fine. The important thing is whether or not they double.
HTH
