So as you know, i have been sick with cold ontop of cold my whole pregnancy..
Wed. night DH and i figured out why i have been so sick.
We have Black toxic mold growing on our bedroom window. Yeah, its BAD.. like even the glass had mold
growing on it!!
So Thursday i called the Landlord, and asked her to call back ASAP.
Yesterday (Friday) at about 1pm, she calls back and i told her about the mold problem, we needed someone in there ASAP to get it cleaned out. She told me that her husband would come by between 4pm and 5pm to "LOOK at it" 5:30 comes around, and she calls me, and says he wasnt going to come.
Today, she isn't answering her phone!!
They have known for over a year that we have had a mold problem in our bathroom, and they have not done anything about it. We have been here for 3 years, never late on our rent.. never caused any problems, so there is no reason for us to be treated this way.

This is serious.. like i have been sick for 4months straight, i am just getting over my 6th cold. I know it is because of the mold it is too bad to be just pregnancy stuffiness, and i hardly ever get sick.
What do you think we should do? Should i contact the Health Department?

~*~*~*~*~*~ Update ~*~*~*~*~*~*

Well the landlords still prove to be USELESS!! So DH and i have taken it upon ourselves to solve the problem. Tomorrow, we will be handing them our Intent to Vacate Notice.
We have found another apartment, and just patiently waiting to hear back if we got the new place or not. Im sure we will since this new place is $25. less a month, and we have never had problems with paying rent before. The new apartment is currently occupied by a friend of mine, so i was able to ask her questions that we wouldn't be able to ask the landlord. I am very optimistic about this new apartment, I think it will be the best move for us for right now.
My friend has nothing but good things to say about the landlord, so thats reason enough for us to move.

My first words are "HEALTH DEPARTMENT!", especially if she said he was going to come check it out and then he didn't, even if she called and told you he wasn't going to come, she is still obviously not making any effort to fix this. You also have another child correct? What of she starts getting sick because of it (knock on wood) but I would call and tell her and inform her you plan on calling the Health Department if this doesn't get fixed (Only reason I say inform her is to be nice lol). But yes I would definitely call the Health Department! Good luck hun and keep us updated!

I would definitely tell them that you will not hesitate to call the Health Department if they don't take care of this ASAP. Black mold isn't something to mess with-- with how quickly it can destroy a house I am surpised they haven't jumped on it.

At least you can identify the problem-- now hopefully you can get it fixed.

Keep us posted.

We are having a similar problem to you. First I would contact the city, and make sure that you take pictures, and date and times you've called them etc. It's really important to keep track of all these things! Second, leave a message telling her that if she doesn't get on top of this ASAP (give them until Tuesday) that you will be having someone come and clean it for you, and they can take care of the tab, or take it off your next months rent. This isn't something to joke about or dick around with, this is your's and your families health and it's not safe. Not to mention that it's costing them more money in damage to their home you're renting! Keep us posted, but remember take photos!!! If you have a digi cam make sure it has the date on the pics. Hope this helps and make sure to keep us updated.

Contact the health department ASAP. And in all honesty, I would start looking for another place to live. Black toxic mold is seriously dangerous. My youth pastor's wife back from when I was in high school passed away from lymphoma cancer last March. She was only 38. They have pretty much traced the cause of her cancer back to the black mold they had all in their house. Not trying to scare you, but you should know that mold is nothing to mess around with.

Kat! That is REALLY scary! That stuff can kill you! I would have someone look at it ASAP, and maybe even stay somewhere else while it's taken care of. Let us know what happens.

Well I'm happy you found a new apartment but to be honest I think you are letting these people off way to friggin easy hun. Take the pics and such. Good luck with the new place and hopefully you aren't handing these people a good reason to keep doing this.

I agree it's good for you to move... I would still contact the Health Dept though... These people sound like the type to not take care of the problem, and allow others to move in there and get sick as well.
