Ladies,
I have question for you. My family is planning a trip down to Ga for my cousin's graduation from boot camp. We would be driving, we would leave June 26th almost 30 weeks. After the graduation we are planning on driving to Fl and staying there for a week main plain is to be home on July 8. I was just wondering if we are able to travel when we are that far along...

Thanks ladies

As long as everything is going ok in your pregnancy there shouldn't be any problems with you traveling at that point. Main thing is if it is a long car trip then you should stop every couple of hours to walk around. Don't want to get any blood clots! Always double check with your dr though and let him know your plans.

I'd for sure ask your doctor. I know travel is safest during second trimester. I'm not sure if it's discouraged for all of the third trimester? Or just the later parts? I would be worried about traveling that far in a vehicle as well. I think it's pretty important for pregnant women to be able to stretch their legs quite frequently.

Either way its something you should definately talk to your O.B. about.

I know a lot of airlines will not let you fly in the third trimester. But that is because they don't want you giving birth up there. Not because it is unsafe or anything. I think you can take a car trip as long as you want. Check with dr to be sure but I agree with Amy, you have to stop and walk A LOT! Take this very seriously. I took an 8 hr car trip when I was prggers with my son and that was drilled into me by my dr. You can get DVT really easily when you are pregnant and it can kill you.

the only thing my doc said was to limit travel after 32 weeks (no air travel for sure... and most airlines won't let you travel unless you have a physicians notice if you are past 30ish weeks)...
we are traveling to san francisco at 26 weeks (which includes an hour plane ride)... and my doc said that was fine...

You should be fine to travel as long as you are in a car...most airlines and other types of transportation don't allow a pregnant woman to travel if she is 27 weeks +....Ask your doctor first and get the ok is my suggestions....Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

Definately ask your doc. My doc said no travel after 28 weeks. It may be earlier for me though because I live at 6500 feet elevation and I know elevation changes can cause problems.

I had to go on a six-hour car trip when I was about 36 weeks pregnant with my #2. It was my grandmother's funeral, so I couldn't miss it. Poor DH was nervous, but my doc at the time was okay with it. Needing to pee every hour will remind you to stop and stretch.

When I was pregnant(about 6 months) with my DD, we drove to MD and it was about a 10 hour drive. By the time I got home my ankles were extremley swollen from all the sitting. My blood pressure went up and never went back down so I was on bedrest for about 2 weeks after that. I ended up having to take medication for the rest of my pregnancy, so make sure you stop at least every hour and move around a bit!!!

At my first visit the NP told me not to travel by air after 34 weeks. She was concerned about me because I live over 90 minutes away from the office. She told me several times during the appt that as I progress in the pregnancy I would have to stop and walk around to avoid blood clots when I make the trip to the office. So just tell your family that you have to take the scenic tour of all the reststops.

I'm glad you asked that question, because I was wondering about that too. My DF is from South Dakota and he wants to go visit the beginning of July. I was worried about making that very long car ride then. I will be right around 29 weeks.

Thank you very much ladies! I will def get the ok from my dr before I go, but I wanted to see what you all thought before I went in and asked him lol I didn't want to ask a question like that and him look at me like I lost my mind.

I already told my family that I will be big and pregnant by than...so we will need to stop a lot so I could use the restrooms (I will walk around them) etc! Not to mention get gas and food! So, while whoever is pumping gas I will be walking around the van a few time lol and I will walk around the food place a few times as well. Thanks for the replies again!
