i think it's important to follow the stores lists of suggested items but rule out what would never work for you or the things that you think are unnecessary.
also, try to register for a wide variety of prices. put things on there that are $1.99 and then things that are $200.00 with lots of prices in between. this will give your shower guests a nice variety to select from.
lastly, don't register for any clothes. every shower i've been at, the mother-to-be gets tons and tons of clothes, more than the baby could ever wear. just put things on your registry that you really need that other people might not think to get you- like baby medicine and laundry detergent.
I would also add not to register for any blankets!
The one product that I think is new in recent years that we LOVE is the Jumperoo. The classic jumper hangs from a doorway, but the Jumperoo is based off of the floor and can easily be moved from room to room. This has been our favorite baby product.
I agree with the other girls... don't register for any clothing, blankets, bath towels, etc. I had clothes and bath stuff for my daughter until she was 3! No joke! And I only registered at one store, that way, if I got gift cards, they would all be from the same place and I could use them to get stuff I didn't receive from my registry from the guests.
I am a first time mom and registered for the first time, so I don't have any advice on specific products...my best advice is wear comfy shoes and bring something to drink and keep a snack on hand! I have gone to add things to my registry 3 times now and every time was there WAY longer than I expected...I ended up with very sore feet and hungry and cranky!
Thanks for the advice ladies!! I actually decided to register with Target online so I wouldn't have to be in the store too long.[/b]
When I first started my Babies R Us registry, I was there for a little over 2 hours with dh-we had no clue what we were doing! I decided I was going to finish online so I wouldn't have to spend so much time in the store again. I thought I could do my entire Target list online, but then there were some things I really wanted to see in the store before adding them. I thought, "Oh, I'll just run in and add a few things..." well, a few things turned into about 6 pages of stuff and a few hours of walking around! I did the same with Babies R Us. I did add a bunch of stuff online, but when I went back to the store yesterday, I found a bunch more stuff. I also kept changing my mind on things-I'm horrible at making decisions! My last two trips I was with my sister for one and both my mom and MIL for the other. I'm sure I spent more time in the stores with them there than I would have if dh were with me~he would NEVER last that long! Anyway, my point is just be prepared in case you are there longer than you expect. If you get done quickly~great!
