I've been having issued with my milk supply since I gave birth- I haven't been able to get enough at one session for a full feeding for Holden (which is now 3 oz), and then I thought of something I could do- but I don't know if it's okay or safe for him.

I know storing breast milk is okay- I was wondering if it's okay for me to take milk i've pumped from two/three different occasions and put them together so that he can have a full 3 oz at once?
Ofcourse i'd make sure the milk isn't spoiled, i'm just wondering if it's okay to put them together?

thanks

Breastmilk doesn't spoil easily...In fact, you can keep it out of the refrigerator up to 12 hours without having to worry if it will go bad...As far as you combining your breastmilk it is perfectly ok...I do it all the time especially when I am at work...The more you pump the better your supply would be...If you pump on a schedule of 2-3 hours your supply should increase within a couple of days...

I pump about every 3 hours and no increase as of yet.
the pediatrician thinks the antibiotics i'm on, which cause me to basically dump everything I eat and have zero appetite- is hurting my milk supply. I can see how, pooping= dehydration.
I finished the medicine yesterday so HOPEFULLY the stomach problems should quit and my milk supply will increase.

Yeah...Antibiotics and can your supply....If your extremely concerned you can always try Fenugreek or Mother's Milk...I used Fenugreek and it's great...I have heard many woman praise Mother's Milk...They are "natural" herb ways to increase your supply even if you are sick or taking medications...

The first few days when I was pumping I combined milk for feedings. I figured that since it's good for 5 days in the fridge it should be okay. After pumping for a few days my supply did start to increase. Yours should increase especially if you're feeling better now. Good luck!

yes its fine... that is what the nicu nurses do all the time... just make sure you are properly using and storing it... like only store it in the fridge for 24 hours... if you thaw it, use it within 24 hours... you can mix fresh with thawed no problem, just make sure you use it in time!

Claire's NICU nurses would combine it too and they are really picky (for good reason) about how they handle the milk in the NICU.

Just to add to the good advice you've already gotten...yes, it's perfectly fine to mix pumpings, just don't ever add fresh "squeezed" to some that's frozen. It's okay to thaw some and add fresh to it to be used then....just don't re-freeze that batch.

Oatmeal is great for increasing your supply as well as being great for you anyway.
