What veggie did you start with? I am trying to decide. We'll probably give Megan some babyfood in the next week or two.... also, how much did you give for the first feeding? Does half a jar sound about right?

I haven't started yet and probably won't for a while. When we do start I think I'm going to start with sweet potatoes. They are really healthy and rarely cause an allergic reaction.
I've seen it recommended that you feed them as normal first and then try the baby food. At first it's more for practice and getting used to it rather than as an actual meal. I think how much you give her the first few times will really depend on how much she likes it.

Her first veggie was sweet potatoes. Her first food was pears, because it's actually a little bitter and they reccomend not starting with something sweet. She had half a container and then I followed up with a bottle.
She now eats the whole container and then still follows up with a bottle.
She gets two foods a day now, a fruit around lunch and a veggie in the evening. She actually really likes the veggies. Seems to like them a lot more than the fruits. They say to start with yellows and then oranges and then move to the greens. But honestly, if a kid isn't going to like fruits or veggies, it's not because you started with the wrong one first. KWIM?

I started with fruits first, and wait until day 2 or 3 to let Aedan try it again... And we don't give him anything else until we try it for the second time so we can tell if he is allergic to that particular food or not... This was the way I was taught because my sister has severe allergies to foods and if we do things this way it ensures that we will know rather or not Aedan has an allergy anything...
Fruits...
1 - Pear (its the gentlest on babys stomach)
2 - Applesauce
3 - Peach(or)Pruin(we start this one today)
4 - Pruin(or)Peach
Then Vegetables...
1 - Carrot
2 - Green Bean(or)Pea
3 - Pea(or)Green Bean
4 - Squash(or)Sweet Potato
5 - Sweet Potato(or)Squash

You don't want to start with the fruits too soon because of the natural sugars, at least IMO anyway. They can sometimes give them diarrhea and bananas can constipate. I would start with sweet potatoes. I always tried (with Camille) to start out with something a little on the bland side. You can always mix it with a little rice cereal too. Addy is only eating rice cereal right now. Keep in mind that their tummies are only about as big as their fists so a jar will probably last a day or two depending on how many feedings for a while.

We started yesterday with the baby food..the doc told us to start with veggies first soo we got the peas...and in a month he said we could start the fruit...
I am not sure how much to give him actually...he has to get used to it..he would only take a few bites and then wanted his bottle..

My doctor suggested fruits first, because of my milk and sugar levels Aedan isn't getting enough... Making it a possiblity that Aedan could become Diabetic... Don't ask me exactly why this will help, that is the only reason why I was taught to give the fruits first... I didn't even think about it being a problem for everyone else... And, we aren't giving him bananas at all, at least for a while...
Aedan and me are on a major sugar in take and we have our blood sugar levels tested every 3 days... I am also required to drink 4.5-6 liters of water a day; because I can't seem to stay hydrated (had this problem while pregnant too)...

LOL! I think it's funny how each Dr is telling everyone different things. I guess it just goes to show, to each their own and different strokes for different folks.
I don't think it matters what you start with, just be sure to wait 3-5 days before trying anything new, so you will be aware of any allergies.
