I'm thinking about taking Ben off of soy formula. I've read some things about soy that I really don't like. There is no reason for him to be on it anyway. He was put on it in the hospital when he was in for his weight gain problems. They gave him the soy because most BF babies end up preferring the soy because it's a bit sweeter like BM.

The soy is more expensive and I've read that it can cause hormonal problems especially in boys. If there is no need for him to be on it then I figure why not switch him.

I've switched brands before because he spit up so much with the other one and what I did was slowly switch over. He was getting 6 oz bottles which is 3 scoops so I started with 2 of the kind he had been getting and one of the new one. I slowly decreased the previous formula and switched. He had no problems.

Do you think I should do the same with switching to regular from soy or just go ahead and make the switch?

When we switched in the hospital, the nurse said to just switch out right and not to mix them or anything, so I'd just switch.

Really? I'm just afraid if I do that it will upset his stomach or something. He's never had regular formula. Milk allergies don't run in our family and I really don't think he'd have a problem but it still makes me nervous.

Well originally Ben was on Enfamil and he spit up a lot. He was on that for a few months. Then I switched him to Parent's Choice to see how he'd do on that one. He did perfectly fine and spit up way less. I plan on using the same brand but just switching from soy to regular.

I hope it works for you, we never did soy, so I don't know anything about that, I just know the Simlac Courtney wouldn't touch, but she was all over the Enfamil.

I am glad you asked this Susan because I was wondering the same thing. I want to switch Hayden from Good start to Parents choice but I am afraid it will upset his tummy..but the price difference is soo much different. But I think I am gonna give it a wack!

I'd give it a try Dannie. When I changed over from Enfamil to Parent's choice I just did it a bit a time and he didn't have any trouble at all.

Ive never switched formulas, Id say if your nervous about it then go ahead and switch graduallly like you did the first time, Its not gonna do any harm to do it that way.

Susan, maybe since you're switching from soy to regular you could give him just a taster? Try to give him 2oz. when he's not as hungry and see how he reacts to it?

When we switched from Nutramigen to soy, our doctor just had us switch outright.

I guess it's just easier for their bellies to get use to one new taste and kind, rather than changing the taste gradually, because each time you add more of one and less of another, it's different, so in actuallity it's rougher. Does that make sense?
We did the same with Kayla, had her on Emfamil and she projectile vomited her entire bottles, so we asked about switching to Similac and her Dr said do it right away. We did and she did great and never puked again from it.
Good luck!

Megan has been on Similac since she was 3 days old so we've never switched her. I just wanted to wish you luck with the transition!

I would probably just switch him all together without mixing...And I LOVE parents choice formula. We only pay $11 a can for Dylan's!

I was told that as long as you stay with the same brand, it's okay to switch outright. Like from one Enfamil to another Enfamil or a Good Start to a different Good Start...

When Angel was a baby she could not drink any formula without throwing up getting tummy pains, so at the age of 3 mo she went on 2% milk and never had any problems at all.

When we switched Evan from the Neocate to Similac we were told to mix them but to only take a few days to switch completely.
