doesn't eat what you fix for dinner (for you, DH, and LO) do you fix them something else to eat or let them go to bed without eating dinner? Are they always served the same thing that you and DH eat or do you ever make them something else, knowing they won't eat what you're eating?

I'm a hard @ss when it comes to eating lol! You eat what is made or you don't eat, I will not make seperate meals...but I try to have at least 1 thing they like so that they eat something.

I believe meals should be more like Colleen stated. However since I live with Ryan's family his mother tends to interfere some and this is one source of conflict we have. I will make Leila something else first if I know she isn't going to eat just so it doesn't become a battle. However if she doesn't eat a meal that she usually would then I send her to bed with whatever she has eaten. I figure that she will eat what she is hungry for. Personally I feel if you always cater to them then you are setting up a lifelong habit of pickiness.

No seperate meals here either. Like Colleen I do try to make sure there is something she likes included. If she doesn't eat it's usually because she ate more during the day. If she hasn't eaten much at all that day I will try a healthy snack later like a piece of fruit or yogurt.

We have a hard and fast rule of at least 5 bites. They must take at least 5 bites before leaving the table. Cameron has tons of texture and dietary issues so we typically have to make him something else but we know that in advance. I don't limit the whole family because 1 person can't eat it.

We don't force food here at all and never have really had to. We had a couple days last week were he "didn't like it" but he's over it already. Not sure what I would have done if he had continued on with it though.

If it's something new, I make them at least try it and if they really don't like it then I give them something else that is in the fridge. If it's something I know they like and just won't eat it I leave them. They'll eat when they're hungry.

when jake & tay were little, i would make them seperate food but that bit me in the hiney later on down the road. now, they don't get a choice really. we buy food that they like and if they aren't "in the mood" for it, i am sorry--this ain't burger king. and jake & tay learned a rhyme at school that goes "you get what you get & you don't throw a fit" and it has worked well.

^^^LOL about the school rhyme! Leila says the song from Yo Gabba Gabba "I tried it and now I like it" all the time only it comes out more like "I try it uh uh like it." It seriously cracks me up especially since she really doesn't try it(she licks it) nor does she like it(spits and sputters and says no!). But heh...someday the full meaning will sink in!

She has to eat a few bites of it, and then I'll make her something else after I'm done eating. She pretty much likes all the same foods as I do though so it's rarely an issue.

LMAO Irelyn does the exact same thing!!! Meal time has turned into a song and dance of Yo Gabba Gabba "I tried it and now I like it" and "There's a party in my tummy, so yummy so yummy"... sigh. HAHA!
