I only ever use this stuff at work, (I work at a gym), otherwise we stick to NON-antibacterial soap at home.

Nice, why does there have to be an article out there that ruins everything I like? =\ Hand sanitizer is my best friend. I don't use it to REPLACE soap and water but I am very anti-germies so I love my purell lol.

I think it's ok to use once in a while, like after using a public bathroom, but people can and do go overboard with it. Germs are not all enemies, we need them to keep our immune system strong.

Yeah I'm not compulsive or anything but I carry it in my purse for on the go stuff, like those public bathrooms lol. Or if we go out to eat or I'm outside and accidentally touch some gum under a table, whatever lol. I don't want THOSE germs

I've also heard of kids actually being hospitalized for licking it off their hands and ending up with alcohol poisoning. I use it on occasion, but not if there's a sink around. It makes me nervous with little kids too, plus it dries out my skin like crazy!

I hate it because I always forget about it and rub my eyes, and then wonder why my eyes are burning. OWW!

It has it's uses, but nothing beats plain soap and water personally.

My sister is horrible about using it all the time and always on me about it. I do carry it for the reasons above but if I have a sink and soap nearby then i'll just use that. I will ask visitors to use it at the hospital as I don't know where their hands have been but at home they will just need to wash their hands.

Ah yes, I have heard this before. I am a germ freak--I mean, an absolute germ freak. I have a foam sanitizer I keep in my vehicles, my purse, anywhere I go, it goes. With kids in school, and always at church where people bring their sick kids, I always have it on hand. But I would rather use soap and water--but purell is awesome!

We have a small bottle of hand sanitizer that we barely use. We don't safeguard against germs here. It's inevitable....germs are everywhere.

It's been good for Rachel because she's not been nearly as sick as my cousin's kids, who "germ-proofs" her kids all the time. I'm not saying "germ-proofing" is bad, I'm just saying we're really bad about it!

I'm one of those people that hates chemicals and thinks people are too paranoid about killing EVERYTHING. You kill the good bugs with the bad when you apply chemicals that kill germs. I don't even have a bottle of bleach in my house, and I never, ever use hand sanitizer. I'm more afraid of the chemicals and crap than I am of germs. I lather well with soap, keep my fingernails short, and feel that I do just fine in handling germs. If something is really gross I'll use a paper towel to handle it.
