Actually this is a 2 part question. First of all I was wandering how often you ladies get braxton hicks contractions and how strong are they?
I get them everyday now and can have more than say 12 in one day. They are worst at night. They can get VERY uncomfortable on the verge of painful.

Second part:
When I get a contraction sometimes one side of my tummy will get way higher then the otherside, I assume that's where the baby is. Today I noticed when I had a contraction that I felt like a hard round ball type thing on each side of my tummy. You ladies think that's the head and the bum, or is baby too small for that to be the case?

I know some ladies get BH contractions and never feel them; I am either in that category or I haven't had any. I can't imagine that I haven't had any at all... But I have never felt anything like a contraction so perhaps I am just one of the lucky ones who cannot feel them up to this point. (I'll be kicking myself tomorrow if I just happen to start feeling them after making this post... lol...) So unfortunately I can't sympathize with you since I don't know how it feels myself... I feel lots of kicks, punches and movements from the baby, but nothing contraction related.

I was reading about them the other day though, and it seems like they can be really different for many women. I don't know if it would help you a lot, but I do remember reading that they can be brought on (or made stronger/more painful) due to dehydration... So maybe increasing your water consumption might help if some days you're not drinking as much as you need to. I have read that they can be more intense (or be able to be felt more) for women in their second (or more) pregnancy than women who are having their first.

I personally don't think your baby would be too small for you to feel at this point (so that may likely be what you're feeling). I mean, my doctor can push around on my belly and know where my baby's head and bottom are at by this point so I would imagine you could feel it too. You can see on your ticker that it says your baby is about 14" long... I definitely think you'd be able to feel that inside your abdomen and maybe even see it during some contractions.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a difficult time with the BH contractions and I hope maybe you can find something that will help make it less uncomfortable for you (maybe some of the BTDT moms will have some more suggestions than just drinking more water). But just try and keep in mind that they are a good thing and your body gearing itself up for your new baby to be born.

Braxton hicks can be quite uncomfortable and if they are they should be taken more seriously. I have them, but they are painless, the tummy gets hard, but no pain. Water is definately a good thing, dehydration will put you into labour, braxton hicks are labour pains (contractions) that do not do anything (don't dilate, efface) but if you are dehydrated they can be real and you could be in labour.

As for the lump, it is very unlikely it is a head, but it would definately be the baby, likely the buttocks. If it was the feet it would be a lump, rather it would be lumpy, does that make sense? And the head is not likely to stick out as a bump.

Thanks for the website, Brandy! I'm definitely going to try it after suffering through days of back labor with Sean.

OK this may be TMI but when we have intercourse something I get really painful braxton hicks that last about 20 minutes. Plus I get a hard ball in my tummy and I am 99% sure thats where the baby is. I am not sure if that is normal but thats what happens to me maybe 20% of the time we have intercourse....

Otherwise they aren't bad... I do have them regularly maybe 3 times per week...

I get Braxton Hicks pretty much daily, usually multiple times a day, and yes at night is when it seems worst, although I may just notice them more then since I'm lying still in bed.

Like Brandy said, I try to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and that does seem to help some but not always.

My Braxton Hicks are rarely painful although I do find it more uncomfortable when I am lying in bed, versus sitting up. I think it's cuz I kinda feel like I can't breathe as well when lying down...

So yes, I'm kind of experiencing the same, although maybe not as intensely as you.
