So I had my latest MD appointment this morning and everything checked out fine as usual except for one thing. All of the sudden my fundal height is measuring 2 weeks ahead! I told my doc at my last appointment that I felt "bigger" than I did at this stage with DS but she said I was measuring perfect. It's not just that I feel big - its the baby who feels big. At 33 1/2 weeks he feels like he's taking up as much room as his brother did at 38 weeks. He also feels as strong as his brother at 38 weeks if that makes sense.
So she wants to do an U/S at my next appointment to try to estimate fetal weight and to check the amniotic fluid level. I know that the baby's size at this point can vary so much week to week and every baby is different. On the one hand I'm confident because I just KNEW I'd be a week or 2 early and that the baby was getting big quick these past few weeks. This measurement just confirms that. On the other hand I'm nervous to go down this road where my doc might want to induce early to prevent too big of a baby etc. - I'm not willing to induce or schedule a section due to baby's size, I'd only do that if baby were at risk in some way.
Its making me a little nervous because I was hoping for an easier birth this time but if the baby is alot bigger I might be in for the same grueling 24 hour labor. I guess I just need to get ready and be as prepared as I can for the birth no matter when that might be. Sometimes its just hard to put your mind to rest with this stuff!

lets not worry too much. Since this is a sudden change it could easily be how the baby is laying or just a recent growth spurt that will even out. My baby consistently measures 2-3 weeks ahead on ultrasound but my fundal height has varied radically between measuring 5 weeks ahead and one week behind.
Relax and know that they aren't ever that accurate. My fundal height measurements were different and my ultrasounds varied too....first I was behind, then I was two and a half weeks ahead, then I was right on target. The baby's measurements were all over the place. I don't think I'll really know what she'll end up being until she is in my arms.
My fundal height is measuring 5cm ahead, and when they looked at the baby last week, they estimated her weight at 3 LBS 12 oz....which is perfectly normal.....although she is measuring long (72nd percentile) so fundal height doesn't really mean much!

I am also measuring ahead but I'm not too worried about it....like the others said it may not mean he's going to be heavier just longer. Let us know what they say at the ultrasound!

The SAME thing happend to me .. I was measuring 5 weeks ahead, they did another ultrasound and my fluid was high-normal and the babys weight was fine .. Now two weeks later I am measuring 2 weeks ahead..So somehow it evens out .. It could be alot of things .. I wouldn't worry too much..HUGS!!
Think of It this way, at least you know. I keep asking the doctor and all she says Is " Your fine". DH's 6'3 and Im only 5'2 so Im soooooo afraid she's gonne be HUGE!!! When she measure's me Im a week behind...But she wont give me another Ultrasound...Ugh!
Two weeks ahead in not that big a deal, with my dd the last I knew i measured at 52cm at 36 or 37 weeks, and at my next appt dr didn't even tell me what I measured at just said that I had gotten bigger- I really did not care to know how much bigger. DD weighed 9lbs 8 oz. I think I just carry all baby out front. With this one I am only measuring 2 weeks ahead so that is good.

2 weeks ahead is fine - you can't expect to measure on target at every visit and my MW told me that a window of a couple of weeks either side is perfectly acceptable and normal. It's not an exact science, just an average guide to growth. Sounds like you're on track, I wouldn't stress over it.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling much better about it today. I think I was just a little freaked because this is the first time with either of my pregnancies that I have measure outside of what is average for my gestation. I'm guessing that in 2 weeks at my next appointment I'll be back in the range and if not, oh well. There is nothing to do but wait for the birth to see how big baby really is!
