My dh and and I have only been renting our current home for 9 1/2 months and we hate it! We started looking for a new rental only a few weeks before we had to be out of our apartment last year so with such little time to look, we had to settle on this house at the last minute, boy did we make a mistake. First of all, its an old house, built in the 1950's I believe but we were told it was completely renovated, well upon move it, it looked as though it was renovated by a 10 year old, paint job was terrible, tile in kitchen had chunks missing out of it, things we didnt see when walking through earlier because the previous tenant had all her nice furniture still in here. We ended up realizing their was a terrible roach problem here, luckily my brother works in pest control and started spraying once a month and took care of that. Then one night dh and I were watching a movie and we seen a mouse run behind our entertainment center! My cat few after it but I was terrified, we started seeing mouse after mouse and our landlord got an animal catcher out here that just wasn't getting rid of them. We caught two on glue traps, still alive all squeeking...eeek! lol....than we caught several more in regular mouse traps, finally the animal catcher found a hole in the floor in the utility room that they were getting into and patched it up, so the problem finally got solved but I was already beyond disgusted with this place. Then, I have a terrible, horrible, unbelivable fear of lizards, long story but its something that happened to me as a child with a lizard. Well I am walking in dh's study one day to put clothes away and I see a lizard on the floor, slithering around! One with an ugly purple tail! I called dh up, bawling my eyes out, it freaked him out because I was about 6 months preggo at the time and he thought something happened with the baby. Well we never did find the lizard but I was so fearful to step foot in dh's study for quite sometime, finally I started going back in and what do you know, another lizard! This time a brown one on the window! I got so mad I grabbed a broom and went crazy with it lol, broke our blinds but got the lizard in the meantime, he didn't make it. Sorry so long about our current house but we just hate it.
Now, to the positive side of this post......I started looking for a new rental home about 2 months ago, a good 5 months before our lease was up to make sure I found something way ahead of time this time. We looked at a beautiful 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom home, only 4 years old, garden tub, walk in closets, built in entertainment center, beautiful landscaping, fireplace, etc. The owner contacted me from a listing I had on craigslist for a rental home. We looked at several houses recently but really loved this one, the neighborhood is very peaceful and you can see a big roller coaster at six flags in the distance from the back window, how neat! Six flags is only about 1 mile away, but the home is far enough away and in a cul-de-sac that their is little traffic. Well the owner was so nice, very laid back and even told me I could paint if I wanted to, usually something landlords wont let you do, so now I can paint Jacob's room! We filled our application out last night and she said we're the only ones she's contacted about the house so its pretty much ours. And get this, the rent is the same per month as this piece of house we're living in! We thought we were going to have to go up $200 more a month on rent to get something we wanted but we thankfully didn't have to. She also wants to sell it eventually and we may buy it next year if we're happy, I can't wait to move out of this house and into the new one in August when our lease is up, here is a picture of the house.
Thanks everyone, I am pretty excited, I really want a nice neighborhood for Jacob to grow up in, I am not sure if this will be the house we'll purchase but we'll at least be in it a year or more, we might need more room when we have another baby and we plan to start trying again in August and its only 3 bedrooms and we always use one bedroom for a guest bed/dh's study room.
Nicole, thats right, we will be closer! We definitely need to get together, feel free to give me a call anytime if you still have my number, I think I misplaced yours or it might still be programmed into my phone, I'll have to look. I am a stay at home mom so I am home all day with nothing to do half the time, so I'd love to meet up somewhere with our babies, just let me know when is good for you.
Holly, I am planning on painting Jacob's room a medium tan color, its a cool earthy tone that matches a lot of his stuff, his colors are tan, brown, and baby blue, I thought about baby blue but thought it might be too much blue and making it tan would help it match all his furniture too, I can't wait to be able to paint.
