Okay so you all know the deal last night...i was in ACTIVE labor - just the early stages for over 9 hours!!

My stupid stupid stupid midwife told the nurses to give me Vistaril for the "pain" that i was feeling so that I could fall asleep....mind you, i WAS NOT complaining about the pain or "discomfort"

Mind you I said like 3 or 4 t imes I didnt want it, and they finally talked me into it....i KNEW i should have trusted my first instinct - not to have it!

anyways i feel groggy and weak and am having super hot flashes and cold sweats and i am feeling really pretty bad!

My dh looked up what vistaril does and is used for and blah blah blah and this is what he found:

- not only is it an antihistamine, it is a CNS (Central Nervous System) Depressent!!!!!!! (this causes muscles to relax, therfore, STOPPING my contractions)
- half life on the amount that i took is around 7-25 hours, so it could only be HALF wore off by 1am today!

IM SOOOOOOOO PO'ED RIGHT NOW! she stopped my baby from coming because she didnt want to get off her azz and deliver a baby in a few hours -days....

anyways, im home, still having contractions but very inconsistent , like 3-7 an hour, its like my body is trying to have them, but im supressing it, and its making me soooo mad! i WILL have this baby within the week and no more meds from this crazy lady...

btw, i just called the office and complained sooo much, and i will complain even more tomorrow when i see her...

why in the hell would she have me walk to make contractions stronger and everything else they did, just to stop it, it makes no sense....shes lucky i cant hit her!

I'm sorry hon. She didn't really give you a reason for why she gave you the Vistaril? Hope it wears off soon for you!

That sucks so bad! They offered me pain meds last night and I decided not to get them either just in case it was early stages I didn't want it to stop either. She definately deserves a good chewing out, and I hope your little one comes really soon just to spite her!

Well that doesn't make a lot of sense that she would do that? She didn't specify what the medicine was for?

That's too bad and I would be so mad if I were you too. I hope the meds wear off soon and you get back to where you were. I'd definitely have words with my midwife if I were you. She needs to respect your birth wishes and if it's your wish to not have meds given and you state that several times, it should be honored (unless they feel it's medically necessary/emergency).

Good Luck!

That is really messed up! I would be pissed off just like you are!!! Don't let them give you pain meds either....I got a shot of demoral when in labour with Benaiah (DS) and it caused the contractions to come on farther apart and for 4 days i was having them. Finally they induced me after the 4th day.

iam sorry you have to deal with that...I dont post much but Iam a lurker, my littlest one keeps me busy..But anyway my OB prescribe me visitril last week for my itching I was having. After I looked it up online, i was like NO WAY! I read it was a tranquilizer and thats the last thing I need with 3 kids! So I just didnt fill it. Most of the time your instincts are right, we just need to learn to listen to them more. I know I should listen to them more!! doctors arent always right..

I hope you feel better and hope your contractions come on stronger so you can have your baby!

I'm sorry, I know you were looking forward to meeting Colton within the next few days. She really should have explained to you what the medication was, and why she was giving it to you. Just let your body do it's thing, and before you know it, Colton will be here!!

Kacie, I'm sorry things have slowed down for you (right now). Look at it this way, your body is gearing up for the real deal. When you are in active labor (actively changing your cervix), Vistaril or any other drug will not stop it. So, just relax, keep your bladder as empty as possible, drink plenty of water & REST, REST, REST! Labor will start when it is ready! I'll be thinking of ya. Keep me posted. I sent you a PM, so feel free to text me. You know I do this (labor evaluation) for a living, so I have sent plenty of mommas home mad at me & their doc. I'm a big girl, I can take your rants.

I would be mad that she didn't explain what it does and to tell you it was just for pain was wrong.
