UGH if there aren't enough decisions to make already. i can't for the life of me remember what i fed emily....i think we boiled tap water???
here is my question, is it okay to use warm tap water out of the faucet. i have read up alot about it, and the only reason i can find not to is because some older houses have pipes with lead in them, and if you get the water hot, it can put lead in the water supply. but, if i am just using luke warm tap water, that shouldn't happen right? Oh, and our house was built 10 years or less ago, so would that make a difference???

If/When I decide to use formula, I'll be using filtered water from the fridge. I did that with dd when I switched to formula.

I won't use faucet because we are on a well. I do have all the filter systems and the black light on the well but it still makes me nervious. We get water delivered to the house and it has flouride in it so I will either use that or I will get the nursery water from walmart.

With Brinlee, we bought bottled nursery water. It was like $1 for a gallon at Wal-Mart. And they have nursery water that comes in little 6 oz bottles, which were great for the diaper bag.
Ask your pediatrician what he/she recommends. Our pedi actually said tap water is fine, but we never used it.

I always just used tap water with my other two...although I was on city water then (in FL). Now I live out in the country and we have a neighbourhood well that has alot of calcium and rust in it. So I think we will use the filtered water from the fridge.

I plan to use flourinated nursery water. We seem to always have boil orders in our area & such. Plus, we don't even drink our tap water.... it's icky. I know some mothers who just turned on the tap & used warm tap water. Some boiled. And I know some who used filtered water.

If I have to supplement with formula, I will use the bottled nursery water. It's what I used with my other two.

We have city water that has good ratings, so we just use warm tap water. Our ped has a list of all the towns that have water that is good to use right from the tap, and our town was on it, so they're fine with it.

I hope so because that is we always used for DS. Our house is over 100 years old so I'm sure some of our pipes have lead and all kinds of other stuff but I did have him screened for lead when he turned 1 and his level was normal so thankfully it doesn't seem to have hurt him. I have read that too much flouride is bad for tiny babies and so I guess if your water supply is fortified with flouride then maybe that would be bad but again I used tap for DS and we get our water from the city system so I'm sure it has flouride, chlorine etc. It doesn't seem to have made a difference for us.
I agree with the PP about asking the pediatrician - I'll have to do that this time around!

You don't just want to use distilled water as it does not have flouride in it. I f you are going to use bottled water I would suggest the nursery water.
I will use the nursery water from walmart, I use it at room temp and just leave it on the counter. DD had no problem with it at room temp- that way no warming involved.

If I were to use formula I would use a water filter or nursery water. But florida water is gross and I wont even even drink tap water so I can't give it to my kids LOL. There are filters you can put right on the end of the faucet - maybe that would work for you?

The more I think about it, we'll probably use nursery water. Currently, our city water has a very, very strong bleach smell, that almost knocks you down anytime you turn the water on. I don't even drink our tap water, so I can't see us using it with formula.

tap water tends to have a high chlorine content which can make for a seriously gassy upset baby.

Hi everyone! I'm Lisa, just popping in from the July DDC. This is an issue that is VERY important to me. I would caution everyone to NOT use the bottled nursery water with fluoride in it. Back in November 2006, the American Dental Association changed/clarified its stance on fluoridated water for infants and said that..."in order to prevent tooth damage, fluoridated water should not be mixed into formula or foods intended for babies aged 1 and younger." Unfortunately, my DS (who was born Dec 2004) was given Nursery water exclusively with his formula and when his front teeth came in they showed evidence of fluorosis.
The ADA also now says..."If liquid concentrate or powdered infant formula is the primary source of nutrition, it can be mixed with water that is fluoride free or contains low levels of fluoride to reduce the risk of fluorosis. Examples are water that is labeled purified, demineralized, deionized, distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water."
I would NOT boil regular tap water, either, because boiling water with fluoride in it only concentrates the amount of fluoride in the water. I plan to either buy distilled water in gallon jugs or purchase a countertop reverse osmosis filtration system (which can remove impurities, including fluoride) that I can hook up to the faucet when I want. I hope this helps!
