I was wondering if all babies are pretty sound sleepers when they're newborns?? Josiah sleeps through EVERYTHING - I mean everything, like loud talking/bangs, vaccum cleaners (run right beside his swing/crib) - nothing seems to wake him unless I pick him up! I was just wondering if most newborns are like this?

Evey is as well, she sleeps through Lex's screaming and laughing and crying, plus all the loud noises. She even sleeps through me picking her up. She really only wakes if she is cold, hungry, or has a yucky diaper.

I think so. Every newborn I've known anyways. Autumn was and now she wakes up when we turn on a stinking faucet!

I think it's pretty normal. At some point, Seth stopped being able to sleep with anything going on, but he's always been an easily overstimulated baby/kid so that could be a good reason why. But, I also wonder sometimes if it's because I always tried to be sooo quiet when he was napping because he was a terrible napper from 2 months old on, so i never wanted to do anything at all to wake him up. Now he doesn't know how to sleep with stuff going on! So, as long as he'll sleep when it's noisy, keep it loud! Caleb has no choice...he has to sleep with noise because his brother is LOUD!

Not every newborn....Isabella was a terrible sleeper and any little noise would wake her...she also needed it to be totally quiet when she was nursing...if the dog barked or someone laughed while she was eating...she would stop nursing altogether.....it was really frustrating. Austin is a much better sleeper!

When Ava sleeps... she will sleep through ANYTHING. Vaccum, phone, cats tearing up the house, me banging around in the kitchen, my LOUD cousin and I talking for 8 hours, the TV- she sleeps through it all. Im trying to get her days and nights right- so during the day I dont make concessions on the noise level. I go about my day like I normally would and make whatever noise is normal. Nighttime is quiet time though- and ironically- she wont sleep then. Hum... maybe I should make noise at night? LOL! I think its totally normal. In fact, if you read "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and look into his methods- he recommends loud noise. I have his soothing CD and it has a hair dryer on it, and a bunch of other loud repettitive noisees like vaccums and things like that. He says the womb is loud for them, about the noise level of a running vaccum- so it actually helps them relax and sleep. HTH!

Zach is a MUCH lighter sleeper then Jesse was, NOTHING ever woke Jesse up, but Zach seems to wake more easily. He still sleeps through alot though.

Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will last unfortunately!
