Since midnight last night I've fed the baby 11 times already - and the day isn't over yet!!
12:30am, 2am, 5am, 8am, 9am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 5pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm. And I know he's gonna wanna eat at least two more times before the day is over. That's THIRTEEN feedings in one day. My poor boobs!!
Please tell me this pattern will end soon. At what age do they start eating less frequently??

Girl, we must be having the same kind of day-- we've had 11 feedings, here, too. We'll likely have 2 or 3 more, too! I'm lucky my breasts are built like steel (knock on wood)!

eta: Good grief, he's making hungry noises now!

Our feedings have been at 1:50 am, 3:00 am, 3:57 am, 4:30 am, 545 am, 8:00 am, 11:54 am, 2:58 pm, 5:16 pm, 6:41 pm, 7:20 pm.

it looks like you are averaging 2 hours between feedings, that is normal for a BF baby. I don't even keep track or I would get too frustrated.

YIKES! I couldn't imagine BFing my trio w/ that schedule. I don't think my body would have time to make the milk.

My doctor called those "snack" feedings. She said to try and hold out for 3 hours - use a paci and distract... then she would eat larger amounts and be able to make it longer. I don't know if that will work for you but it is what she told me to do to avoid her eating so frequently...

I don't know if I have the heart to do that. When he roots around and starts crying loudly and looking very upset, I can't bear it to not feed him. I don't want to starve him or let him sit and be hungry and miserable. Has anybody else's pedi made the same recommendation, or have you tried it?

I hear ya! In the evenings Emme eats every 30 minutes for at least 10 minutes. I just keep feeding her because she wont hold out. She would just scream and scream until I put her on the boob. I hope feedings become less frequent too. Ive had to cancel all of my evening plans.

DD seemed to be eating every hour or so and it was getting really stressful. It was like once she gets on the snack train she never gets off! I usually give her one side burp then give her the other. Well I started trying to get her take the last breast one more time so she was getting a 3 course meal. I had to change her diaper and wiggle her to keep her interested but it did seem to help. My milk supply seems to of increased and she is eating every 2 and now sometimes 3 hours. And now she is back to just eating once from each breast and is satisfied more then an hour.

So maybe you can try to get him to nurse longer, I know it's hard when you're already tired and have so many things to do.

sometimes if I think he hasnt taken enough I change his diaper to make him wake and take more. Hes been pretty consistant with every 3 hours but every so often its like he wants to eat all day, which of course is the same days that jesse is extra fussy and needy

I don't think I could do it either. I have never been told to do anything like tha though. From what I have learned over the years, when they are eating like that, they are trying to oncrease your production and the best thing to do is to let them nurse. It can be a commitment, but it is worth it.

^^ Exactly. You need to feed your baby when they want to eat because otherwise your milk supply won't respond to how much they want to eat. Making them "hold out" til the 3 hour mark isn't going to do much other than give you a headache from trying to console a hungry baby without feeding them!

Caleb's eaten every hour and a half today. I KNOW it's because he's not eating enough when he does eat...every feeding has lasted for less than 5 minutes. He's not falling asleep either. He unlatches and refuses to open his mouth again to latch back on. He just wanted to have a snack day today I guess.
