the nurse at the ob gyn office said 6th month starts at 23 or 24 weeks and 3rd trimester begins at 27 or 28 weeks, Im like.. which one lol..

but heres the part that gets confusing..

1st month- 1-4
2nd month 5-8
3rd Month- 9-12
4th month-13-17
5th month-18-22
6th month-23-27
7th month 28-32
8th month-33-37
9th month-38-42

but the numbers don't add up... 9th month should count as 37 weeks to 40...
and 8th month shouldn't have 37 weeks in them.. becuase its considered in the 9th month??? but when i add 4 weeks each month- this is what i get?

Help!!! I NEED CLARIFICATION!!!!!

I've always became confused while pregnant with DD so after reading a few books - I found this to be easier for me to remember and acknowledge which trimester I am in:

weeks 1 to 6: Month 1 - First Trimester
weeks 7 to 10: Month 2 - First Trimester
weeks 11 to 14: Month 3 - First Trimester
weeks 15 to 18: Month 4 - Second Trimester
weeks 19 to 22: Month 5 - Second Trimester
weeks 23 to 26: Month 6 - Second Trimester
weeks 27 to 30: Month 7 - Third Trimester
weeks 31 to 34: Month 8 - Third Trimester
weeks 35 to 40: Month 9 - Third Trimester

The 1st month and 9th month - there's 6 weeks in each month -- Because we don't know exactly when we've conceived
The 2nd month to the 8th month - there's 4 weeks in each month.

I hope I helped!

Krystle

The reason it looks like this is because the first two weeks of your pregnancy, you're not really pregnant... it's the first day of your last period up through ovulation and till date of conception, which is typically two weeks. So yes, according to the healthcare system we're "pregnant" for 42 weeks, but the baby is only there for 40. If you notice you'll see a difference in how many weeks count as a "month" once you hit you're second trimester. It becomes 5 weeks to a "month" from month 4 on.

Yeah! It can be confusing! Wish things was a bit easier and we could understand in what trimester we are in without any confusions. But Good luck!

Geez, when I was pg with DS (9 years ago) I didn't count anything in weeks...it was all about the actual calendar months. I guess because of habit that's still how I think of trimesters. I'm due Oct 17th so I just split it up like this:

1st trimester : January 11th (LMP)
2nd trimester: April 17th
3rd trimester: July 17th

It actually works out to within 1 day of the week system.

LOL, I'm no help, just had to get in on the conversation.

I was told you divide the number of weeks you are by 4 and that's how many months you are ... that's what I've been going by however it IS very confusing and it seems like all the sites and different people have different answers ... I guess pick the one you like the best!

this totally makes sense to me! I'm using this from now on when people ask how far along I am. It confuses people if you were to say I'm in my 9th month, 1 more to go, because most people don't know that it's officially 40 weeks... When people ask I'll say I'm in my ___ month. Or I'll just say the weeks.

My baby book counts the start of the third trimester as 28 to 40 or 42 weeks. 3 weeks to go till I'm in the homestretch!

Two of my pregnancy books say the third trimester starts at 28 weeks which looks like your chart so that sounds about right to me.

I have only heard week 27. Which is actually your 28th week. because when you start at one your already in week 1.
And most people only count you pregnant for 9 months when its actually 10. But when you say 10 they give you a crazy look
but 9 months isnt 40 weeks. Its all very confusing..but if you think about each trimester is around 13 weeks...and once you it week 27 you have
13 weeks to go so yes..it works out okay lol

If you do this, and you make it to the full 40 weeks, you'd be ten months pregnant!

I say we blame leap year and whoever dsigned our calendar system. If every month had the same number of weeks and days, there wouldn't be this confusion!!!

I can't believe I'm only five weeks away... YIKES!!!

yes 40 weeks divided into lunar months is 10 months. You ARE pregnant for 10 months if you go by the lunar calendar which is what pregnancy is counted by...who knows why though lol just adds to the confusion:-/

yea it confuses me too much... I never go by months lol.. I just go by the weeks.. that way people can figure it out if they really want to and they can decide decide how many months I am... unless someone wants deep explaining lol
