Well ladies, I just got back from my first hypnobirthing class. I am so happy I found out about this! I am getting really excited! Anyone hear about it or using it too? I really really recommend it! Especially if you want a natural drug free birth. Even i you want the Epi these classes are REALLY supposed to help. Or i your really nervous about labor you should really consider it. Here.... I will copy down my paper I got today and what it says to help explain it better...

<div align="center">Hypnobirthing-- A celebration of Life</div>

Definition:
Hypnobirthing is as much a philosophy as it is technique. It is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that when a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally, and spiritually, she can experience the joy of birthing her baby in an easier, more comfortable, and often pain free, manner. Hypnobirthing returns to women the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts. Hypnobirthing is based on the belief that severe discomfort does not need to be a natural accompaniment of labor.

The Hypnobirthing Advantage--
  1. Eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain syndrome before, during and after birthing.
  2. Reduces the need for chemical anesthesia.
  3. Eliminates fatigue during labor, leaving the mother fresh, awake, and with the energy needed to bring her baby into the world.
  4. Shortens the first stage of labor by several hours and often eliminates the need to push to bring the baby to the crowning stage.
  5. Brings together the mother, the baby, and the birthing companion in a wonderful prenatal and perinatal bonding experience.
  6. The birthing companion is an integral part of the birthing, not an onlooker.
  7. Postnatal recovery is rapid and easier.
  8. Babies are better adjusted and happier.
  9. Mothers don't run the risk of hyperventilating from shallow breathing. (Like Lamaze teaches, right??)
  10. Birthing is returned to the beautiful, peaceful experience that nature attended.

If your interested definitely google it. I know people that have used the techniques and they LOVED it. They said they had very happy birth experiences and explained it as it feeling like have an out of body experience. Check it out! I am highly recommending it to everyone!!!

i plan to use hypnobirthing too! but we have no classes in the area so i read the book and am figuring it out on my own. anything that you are willing to share from your classes, i would love to hear/learn about, if you are willing.

also, my midwife said that the one patient she had who used hypnobirthing was probably the quietest and best birth she has ever attended....

my best friend swears by it. I read the book and it had a lot of good points but I'm not into the whole hypnosis thing. I am into the calm and NO PUSHING part of it though!!

Well, it's not like being hypnotized. It's deep relaxation...

I'm doing the same as Kmac, although the classes are available here they're booked up past my due date already, so I too bought the book and we're just gonna wing it. I actually felt really good about the book and all of the techniques are in it, plus it comes with a cd that helps teach you to get to that "peaceful place", which I've already loaded onto my iPod.

I'm reading this too! No classes offered around here, which really bums me out. But I bought the book on Wednesday and am already halfway through it. Please share anything you learn in your classes that you think would be helpful!

My husband and I had our 3rd of 5 private lessons in our home last week - the 4th is this week, then one to recap in September. Our teacher is in fact a certified hypnotherapist....and she does put us under hypnosis, and has been teaching my husband how to put me under! But yes it basically is just a deep state of relaxation where your mind is open to positive suggestions.....and I think we've decided we want her to be our doula - originally we didn't want to spend the money but we think now it will be worth it, to have her there and hopefully help the nurses cooperate with our peaceful birthing plans...and take some of the pressure off of my husband, too. I DEFINITELY recommend hynobirthing to anyone!!

Yea it is considered 'hynosis' but not like anyone would think of it as. When I first heard of it... I thought I would be totally out and not realize what was going on. I am really excited and I will share all the information I can. I actually might try and record the sessions for you guys. I have a little recorder I have been using for my schooling (it eliminates taking notes and you get to listen to the class twice ) so I will record the classes for you guys. I have to figure out how to put the recordings on the computer but I know it can be done I do know the classes follow the book, so you guys have a good head start!!

I am so excited to try this. What is the name of the book?? I'd like to get it also as they do not offer classes where we live. I had a short but intense labor with my son and would like to try this as an alternative to IV drugs. When he was born he had some problems with temp control and I know that the drugs could have contributed to that. YAY! I'm glad others are looking into it too! I think my dh thought I was a fruit at first but he is def coming around to it and acts interested now.

I looked up the books on Amazon and a whole bunch popped up

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=s...s=hypnobirthing

I'm sure they are all basically the same. I think i am using the HypnoBirthing: A Celebration of Life by Marie F. Mongan in my class but not sure. I can let you know what one I will use that I'll get at my next class on the 7th. SO thought I was crazy too until he saw it for himself. Now he is all for it. Look up some videos on youtube. There are a lot of news reports and births about hypnobirthing on there you could show him. That might help him understand it better....

I was supposed to take a class on this, but no one ever showed up!!! I found out later the teacher had broken a few ribs, so is no longer teaching til she's better. *sigh*

I should get the book... this is interesting to me and I'd like to learn how to coach it in case any of my clients want to use it. I may even try using it in my birth...

The book I'm reading is Hypnobirthing by Marie Mongan. I bought the last one at my Barnes and Noble! I could be wrong, but I think she's the one that coined the term and started the classes.....I'm sure there are a ton of related books out there too.
