Okay, so I am one of those "bad ones" that lets my LO sleep on his tummy, b/c he sleeps better and longer. Problem is, his pee fills up the front of his diaper and then just goes up his belly/chest and soaks him, his onesie and the crib sheets and mattress pad. Therefore, I am washing wet sheets and pad everyday. I've tried both Pampers and Huggies and they both do the same thing. I just don't know what to do! I'm thinking of buying some of the waterproof pads, (I think they were called lap pads???) and putting one under him before he goes to sleep. I mean, when I say its wet, its SOAKED when he wakes up, and yet the back of his diaper is completely dry! So anyone else have this problem? Any advice???
We use lap pads under Isabel's head, so when she spits up I just have to change the pad instead of the sheet. I would recommend you buying them, the larger ones, to put under him. That should save you some laundry Does he need a bigger size diaper? If the next size up would fit, it will absorb more.
I've got him in size 2, but they are the swaddlers. maybe i should try the regular pampers in a 2? i didn't even think of that til now. i will def try the lap pads. Thx!
OMG this is an ongoing problem that we've had with Aiden since he was Thomas' age.
See?
This is from a few mornings ago, and yes, that is pee all the way from the bottom of the onesie to the design at the top. That is a pretty good morning. There have been mornings where I go in and the only dry spot on the onesie is a small patch in the middle of his back. It is so gross! I'm constantly washing his sheets and the full mattress protectors that we have underneath. He gets a bath every morning. We have tried every type of diaper, and get the same results with all of them. Part of Aiden's problem is that he LOVES to sleep late. When I go to work and he has to wake up early (6am) to go to the babysitter we don't have this problem. But, I'm not waking him up every morning at 6. Laying in all that doesn't phase him one bit. I'm honestly worried about potty training because I don't think he's going to care about being wet when he doesn't care that he's laying like that. It does help to limit what he drinks before bed, but you can't do that with a baby like Thomas. Some people have suggested sticking a maxi pad in the top of the diaper to absorb the extra pee. I'm interested to see what other suggest.
Yep, that's exactly what thomas looks like, and its like that at 3-4am, so i get to change him then and i'll move him to the other, dry, end of the crib to sleep the rest of the night and then sure enough at 7-8 he's soaked again! I too have been bathing him every morning. i might try the maxi pad thing! i'm willing to try anything!!!!
We tried the one size higher and the overnight diapers, and they didn't work for us. I've never thought about the cloth diapers for night time. I wonder if that would work.
We use cloth during the day and disposables at night for Adrian because otherwise he is totally soaked like that, so I don't know that cloth would help much. He still is often all leaky when he wakes up and it happens when he's on his tummy (he sleeps on his back or side during the night, but when I wake up I turn him on his tummy and he stays like that until he wakes up a couple hours later). Make absolutely sure you are getting his penis pointed down when you change him. Other than that, changing him in the middle of the night will help keep him from leaking, but I know that's not really practical. Other than that those lap pads are all I can think of to help keep the sheets dry.

When Eden was little she would pee through diapers like a champ. One of DH's coworkers suggested to put a second diaper in the next size up over top of her regular size diaper at night. It worked for us and we still do it for her now. We haven't had that problem with Ivy yet but if we do that's how we plan on fixing the problem. Hope this helps!

Oooh, that's a really good idea since I didn't have time to go buy lap pads today, I think I will try double diapering him tonight and see if it works!!
Sydnie sleeps on her tummy too and she often will soak through her diaper (she wears cloth diapers) So I use a bigger diaper cover and use 2 diapers and she makes it all night without a leak!

Thank you to Jaidynsmum for my beautiful Siggy!
cloth at night!! We were using sposies at night cause thier more absorbant than most cloth.... but then I found that if I layer with cloth it's much better!! I use a pocket diaper stuffed with a microfiber insert and a hemp insert then.. It may be a little over the top, but I put him in wool shorties! I've yet to wake up to a wet baby! And we sleep sometimes till 10:30!!!!
If you don't want to do cloth I would atleast look into getting some wool shorties to put over this disposables!! They are kinda spendy but the nice thing about wool is you don't have to wash them everyday, they are naturally antibactieral! And they keep what ever they are wearing dry! I don't know how it works so awsome but they just do! I guess nature knows best!
Oh and defintatly get some sheet savers (lap pads!)
something I just remembered. Before I started using cloth I remember using diaper doublers. Some stores sell them but I haven't seem them around latley....I'll google them and see what I come up with!
heres a lady that blogged about them and she even put a picture of them her site... she said you can get them at toy's r us or even albertsons. I think I'm gonna pick up a few! They are so cheap! And I remembered they work so well!
Brandalyn, thank you so much for the post! I am definitely going to look for the Diaper Doublers. I did double up last night and he stayed dry, but I'm still going to look for them and pick up some lap pads as well. Thanks again for the advice ladies!!!!
I haven't had thi problem, but Walmart sells those waterproof pads that can go on top of your sheets as well. I think they come 2 in a pack. They are big enough to cover my changing table, so I'm sure they will cover a great area of your crib. HTH. Everyone has given great ideas for me to keep in the back of my mind.
I wonder if these ideas will work on the poop that manages to "SQUIRT" out of the diaper, down the leg, in the socks and all over the carseat problem that I had today. I was soooo embarrassed. We'd just gotten to the hair salon & Lil' Miss Laila had a huge poop inside/outside her diaper. I had to give her a bath in the sink at the hair salon!

Oh what a mess! Poop seems to shoot everywhere when they are in something snug-car seat, walker, exersaucer, etc. It's like when you put your finger over a garden hose!
