He'll be 3 months on the 15th. And at his last visit 2 days ago he was 10lb 3oz, still not on the curve. I love my little guy to death and it's nice that he's still tiny and easy to carry....but I wish he would bulk up a little more so I wouldn't worry so!

What a peanut! But he was pretty small when he was born too. It took my guy 2 weeks to regain his birthweight and at the 1 week appt the doc saidas long as he was gaining 1/2 or more a day that was fine. Your guy is doing that, so that's great! Is your doc concerned at all?

no the doc's not concerned about his weight anymore.....before we were in there weekly to do weight checks...but now that he's consistantly gaining it seems as though they dont care to address the fact that he is misserable when he eats...he is constantly having tummy troubles either from his GERD or from his GAS and constipation. I'm trying to push to see a gi specialist! But first they want me to go back and see the speach pathologist to see if she can help.

how would a speech pathologist be able to help? Hm. Logan was right at 11 lbs at his 2 mo visit. As long as he is growing at a steady pace and developing normally I wouldn't worry too much about him fitting the curve.

Ani was a tiny one, too, and she never had any feeding problems or anything. She's still small.

Scarlett at her last appointment (at 10.5 weeks) only weighed 10lb, 10oz. At birth she was 5 lb, 12 oz. So she is still little too. She has no feeding problems, but she just doesn't eat alot. Her doctor didn't seem concerned. I was told to try to get her to eat more...but I can't force feed her...we feed her on demand and she usually eats every 2-3 hours, but she only takes 3-4 oz at a time. She is a very happy baby so I have decided not to worry about her weight as long as she's gaining I am happy.

I wouldn't worry, I think all babies are different and develop on their own schedule.

I hate when doctors throw those stupid charts in your face and scare parents to death because their child isn't in the "50%" range. There is no text book child, some children are small, some are bigger, some are in between. In my opinion, as long as they are gaining weight steadily then they're probably fine. As long as they're not falling off of the current curve their on (whether it be a curve that is not even on the chart, or one on the chart)... either way... as long as their following it, then they're more than likely fine.

Those stupid charts are ridiculous in my mind.

My niece's pediatrician told my SIL that my niece was TOO TALL. She was "off the chart" for height. It's not like you can control the height of a child. What did she want my SIL to do?! Bind my niece so she wouldn't grow?!

Brinlee was born at 7 lbs 15 oz. At 1 month she was only 8 lbs 0 oz. At 2 months she was 9 lbs 3 oz, and at 3 months she was 10 lbs 1 oz. She was always healthy, always a piggy, she was just small.

Don't let them scare you. He has gained 3 lbs 6 oz since he was born.

As far as GERD/Reflux and him being miserable when he eats, I would definitely get that checked out and be persistant about it if your pedi isn't wanting to do anything about it. The little guy shouldn't be miserable when he eats, that is not normal.

Sorry he is miserable! I'd definitely push to see if there is something they can do!

I agree with erica about the charts. My little guys have both been big for their age and I frequently hear at our MD visits that they are off the chart for height and/or weight. Because they are growing like weeds pediatricians tend to write off any problems I might mention. They are gaining so what could be wrong? But Octavian has had the same kind of GERD, gas and constipation problems that you are dealing with. He would just scream in pain when he had to pass gas and he was swallowing down all this spit up that would rise in his throat. I have gone off my prenatal vitamins and within a week I saw a major improvement. If you are breastfeeding you might try looking at your diet and what things you might be eating/taking that could impact your little one. Definetly keep after your doctor for some help with your LO's digestive issues - you gotta pester them.

Nixon was 10 pounds even at his 2 month checkup, and 23 inches so he is long and thin but the doc said he wasn't worried at all and said he is doing great.

I have an unusual situation, but my girls are almost five months (four and a halfish) and weigh 8lb 4.8oz and 10lb 4oz. They were only 1lb 6oz and 2lb 8oz at birth though, but adjusted age they'd be almost two months now, so still small for that age even. We go in every two weeks now for growth/weight checks and keep getting told they're not gaining fast enough...uggg... like I can force more down their throat! The Dr. now has us putting cereal in their bottles to help keep it down (we're dealing with reflux too) and to increase the calorie count. We use a "recipie" for mixing formula to up their calorie count too. Since I pump breastmilk we were told to add a little formula to that as well to increase calories. The girls also both take Zantax to help with the acid production - it does work pretty well.
