I've come to the heart wrenching decision to sell my horses. I just don't have the time to juggle school full time, two children (A toddler and an infant) and I feel like I am just so overwhelmed. As well as all the problems I've been having in my relationship..I just feel the best thing to do is to sell the horses (all except Royal, my old, sick horse..who will be with me till the day he dies), and to focus more on my family. I feel selfish for keeping the horses right now and trying to make the time to ride when the time just is NOT there.

It sucks, but I've made the decision and am trying to find homes for the two other horses... it's hard but I figure when the kids get older, things settle down a bit, and I have more time, then I can always get another riding horse, or even lease somebody else's horse (without all the work/expense involved in owning one).

I guess I just wanted to vent here. It sucks, horses WERE my life before I began my family, but now I just feel that my priorities have shifted.

Well I may only be getting rid of ONE horse. I told Shawn and my mom of my decision and they flipped out. Both of them said they didn't want to be anywhere near me if I couldn't ride, and that I shouldn't feel guilty. My mom says its her time to spend with the grandkids when I am riding, and it doesn't bother her to watch them and is good for me. It's my only "extracurricular" activity I have outside of school and mommyhood. OF course though, I don't need TWO riding horses. So maybe just place the pony, and keep my Thoroughbred that I rehabbed (along with Royal..who can't be ridden anyways), and that will cut down on the work load and the feed bill.

So...nothing is set is stone yet. I didn't expect that sort of response from BOTH of them. Guess I am a real b***** when I haven't been riding in a week ....

Well if you must make that decision - I do understand. Having to find a home for my kitty cat now! Whatever you decide will be the best for you & your family.

Hon, I completely understand!!! Making time to ride is SO difficult. I was thrilled when I realized that weaning Jack from b-milk meant that I could leave him with grandma while I go ride for a couple of hours with DH. Just this week I said I wanted to sell my old gelding and DH said no!!

Anyways the point is that I'm glad you're going to hold on to one horse. You deserve to have some quiet time for yourself just as much as everybody else. Make Shawn do his part, and go get on a horse. You are a good mommy and you deserve it.

I'm sorry hon but understand where you are coming from. I do think it's a good idea to keep one of them so you can get your quiet riding time, I'm sure for a horse lover that is priceless.
