What's considered a fever for a baby? Chloe just woke up and has a 101.2 temp and just bursts out in screams like you are murdering her every so often... she woke up this morning and didn't feel hot so i gave her some cereal, and before I could even sit her up to burp her she thru it all up, I looked down and it looked like she was foaming at the mouth, never coughed gagged or anything it just came up.. got all over our bed, her and myself. So I bathed her at about 11 or 12, it was right after it happened, and put her in her swing and she has slept from then until about 3, woke up feeling hot, but i thought it was just from being asleep and under her blanket so i gave her a formula bottle and she took it all but a oz. and still felt real hot, so I checked it and it was 101.2... Is that a fever or what.. I called her nurse and am waiting for them to call back. I've heard so many different things about fevers that idk. One nurse she saw in Jan before we went to knoxville said if it was 100.4 or higher take her to the ER. but that was when she was like a month or so old so idk.

Should I give her tylenol and try to get it down on my own until they call back or what?

Yep she has a fever. I would say give her Tylenol to try to get it down. If it doesn't go down then take her in. Thrown up cereal can sometimes look foamy. She may sleep a little more since she is not feeling well and with the Tylenol.

I think you have childrens tylenol, not infants. with the infants I think the dose is 0.8ml, I'm guessing though, not looking.

a fever is really anything over 99.5 in my book. if it is over 103 for a baby we take tylenol and if it doesn't go down in 30 minutes go to the hospital. as long as it isn't that high, once they are over 2 months a fever isn't as dangerous. fevers in newborns are bad.

she could just be teething hun, that can cause fevers, throwing up and diarrhea. I would get some infants tylenol and give her the lowest dose in the dropper, it will have instructions by weight, and check it again after about 45 minutes.

I found this online. I am pretty sure the dosages are correct. If you have any doubt wait until the nurse calls you back.

I checked it at 3pm and it was 101.2, i havent given her anything yet bc i was unsure of how much and felt better about waiting then overdosing her or something. i'm checking it now and its.......101.6 and the time is 4:04

That is ok. I always give a little less than what over the counter calls for. Just in case I am not positive on their weight. It should still work. May not as well as if she had the full dosage but I have never had problems.

It's 11 lbs and under .4 ml, over 11 lbs .8 ml. That is from a sheet my pedi gives me at each appointment.

I hope she feels better!

nurse finally called back at about 5 or a little after and said that i needed to give her another
.4 ml bc that wasnt enough to bring the fever down, so I did and about 15 minutes later I checked her temp and it was 100.6 so it's coming down, I asked her what I needed to do if it doesn't go down or away and she said to make an appt for tomorrow, but I told her she already had one for in the morning for shots. She said to keep it, if she has a fever then they won't do the shots but will check her out bc they arent supposed to have a fever for more than 24 hrs. If she doesnt have a fever then they'll do the shots.

So. All is good for now, atleast its going down and I know for future reference that she can have .8mL

Thanks ladies!
