in the past few weeks Isaac has grown increasingly afraid of any loud noise or anything that might make a loud noise. we can't blow our noses, sneeze, cough, clatter a plate, raise our voices or slam a door (not like we're constantly doing such things, but you get it ) without him panicking. yesterday he was playing with two big hard plastic bowls on the kitchen floor, and he used to get a real kick out of the crash sound they make, but when he picked one up and dropped it and it made that loud crashing noise, he couldn't crawl away fast enough, hyperventilating and grabbing his ears. he'll grab at or cover his ears if something scares him. i was thinking it may have been my parents' dog barking that set him off a little while ago, she's a sweet dog but has a CRAZY loud bark that would scare anyone who didn't know her. her barking caught him off gaurd one day and he freaked. could that be it? hopefully it's just a phase? or could it be something to worry about?

He sounds really sensitive. I hope it's just a phase. Maryella isn't sensitive to loud noises, but Aiden is. He used to be fine, and then a little over a year ago he started to get scared when he hears motorcycles, trucks, or loud cars. Whether we're outside or inside when one goes by he will get all upset and start whining loudly (like aaaa, aaaaa, aaaaa), increasing in loudness for the length of the noise, and if he can he'll run and grab on to me or DH. We took him to see fireworks last July and he freaked out as soon and the booms started. If he hears someone talking loudly or arguing he will cover his ears and do the same whining noise. He has even started calling to the person and saying "stop or shhhh." I don't know what triggered it and I don't know when it will stop. I hope Isaac is short-lived in this stage! I would mention it to his ped and see what they think. When I mentioned it to ours they told me it's normal and some kids act this way and some don't. That made me feel a little better.

I hope its a phase, Brooke went thru something to that effect but it was about a year ago or more, and it lasted for awhile, anytime we were in a public bathroom(EWW i hate them..LOL) and the toilets would automatically flush she'd flip and cover her ears, the dryers in the public bathrooms, the vacumn, the spin cycle of the washer if she was walking past... shes basically grown out of it except the automatic toilets they still flip her out a bit... it could just be that the dog caught him off guard and scared him a bit, Id just keep an eye on it and see how he acts the next few months if it continues then it wouldnt hurt to mention it at his 1 year check up

Josh has been scared of loud noises since he was about 3mths old when we were in Lebanon an idiot on a crotch rocket came zooooomin by and revvved it up righhhhhht by the car where he was sleeping, he screamed for half hr. Now when we use the blender or anything like that he cries. Blowing our noses and stuff dont seem to bother him but lots of stuff does.

Awww, poor thing. Parker gets freaked by the hair dryer and the blender. She loves the vacuum, but I've been using it around her since she was a newborn. She does the same thing though, FREAKS, hyperventilates, and does this "Neh neh neh neh" cry.
