I gave Emma some rice cereal tonight. She's always so interested in what I am eating and I've given her a few tiny tastes of food off my plate here and there and she seems to like that, so I thought she might like it. She did pretty well. She did great opening her mouth for the spoon, but she hasn't quite gotten to swallowing it down yet. I'd give her a spoonful and she would immediately open her mouth for more without swallowing the spoonful I had just given her, so most of it ran down her chin.

Question for those who are alreay feeding your baby cereal: How much breast milk/formula do you mix in with it? I used 1 tbs cereal and 5 tbs BM as suggested on the package. It seemed like it might have been a bit too thin. I know you don't want it too thick to start with, but I think she might do a bit better with the swallowing if it's not so runny.

I started Collin on it a week ago and I did 1 tbsp cereal to 4 tbsp bm too....it was really thin for us as well, but I kept it the same the next couple times I did it though. Tonight I made him sweet potatoes and only added less than a tbsp bm It was thick but he did awesome!

DH did the recommended amount (5:1) for the first few meals. Then he switched to a 2:1 breast milk to cereal ratio. Donovan seems to do better swallowing now with it being less runny.

Yeah, I don't do the super runny consistancy anymore, he has the eating thing down, I don't measure I just pour in some cereal and some water (don't have b/m and we don't use formula), and I mix in some veggies or fruits. He's eating about a 1/4 of a cup now.
