Okay, this is gross but Constantine put a piece of cooked plain macaroni pasta up his nose. I mean WAY up his left nostril. He immediately freaked out and was saying, "mommy get the noo-noo out my nose"! I was sitting right next to him feeding Octavian his lunch when it happened. I didn't see him do it - he must have been fast! So I could see the noodle up there it but it is too far up there for me to get it out. So, I have a call in to our pediatrician but the nurse hasn't called me back yet. Do I need to consider an ER visit for this? A few pieces have already worked themselves out on their own just from getting him to blow his nose. It seems to be breaking apart and coming out little by little. I estimate that half of the noodle is out already. I can still see some in there though. His nose is running so I can tell his sinus is not blocked he says it doesn't hurt. What should I do!!??!!!!! I have heard of kids putting things up their nose but I honestly am shocked and more than a little grossed out!!!

He needs to go in to have it removed (either to the office, or to the ER). They'll use forceps and a nasal speculum to get it out. They'll probably want to be sure it all comes out, instead of having you do it at home or waiting for it to come out.

edited: realized it was cooked, not uncooked.

This does not sound good. Poor little guy may be in for a rough afternoon.

If it were you having it done, it wouldn't be rough. It's just that he's a little kid and isn't going to want to lay still and have something stuck up his nose. It SHOULDN'T be painful. The nasal speculum is just to hold the nostril open, the forceps (tweezers) would be to remove the foreign matter. The worst part should be getting him to be still or you having to hold him down.

Keep us updated!

Okay, so the MD had us come into the office and she looked up there with a tiny flash light and kind of squished his nose around and she said she didn't see anything. I couldn't see anymore pieces up there either by the time we got to the office. I asked - what if they are just to high up to see? She said they will come down on their own (man I hope so). She said even if she could see them the cooked noodle would break apart when she tried to tweeze it out so it wouldn't be effective. I don't know. I hope she's right.
I'll KUP if anything more comes of this. Yuck.

I didn't even think about that... the forceps would totally tear apart the noodle since it was cooked

Well hopefully it's all out! Definitely keep us updated!

oh, yuck! Little kids do some strange things! Most likely he sniffed the last little bits up and they probably just went down to his tummy (the sinuses and throat are all connected) - gross, but natures way of keeping things cleaned out. Glad his afternoon wasn't too traumatic!
