I know we have quite a few mommies here who are signing with their August little ones, and I wanted to invite you all to the Baby Signing board! We'd love to have some experienced signing mommies there to share their advice and join the discussions with their personal stories!

See you there!

I'm ready to give up on signing. I like to do it, and will likely continue just for my own amusement, but we've been focusing on ONE sign (more), and have been doing so since Cait started solids at 6mos, but she's never once used it.

Maybe you should introduce other signs for words that you use all the time.

Aw, don't give up! Cait might honestly just not want or need to communicate "more" to you. It might help to try some signs that have more concrete meanings (refer to an actual object or action) "more" is kind of abstract if you think about it, and many kids take a while to get that one.

I would try something like "milk" "eat" or if she has a special blankie/lovie that she frequently wants, give her a sign for that!

I hope you don't mind a bit of unsolicited advice, I just like to help when I see a fellow mommy getting frustrated with signs.

I totally understand. We had been working on four signs - milk, more, diaper and dada/daddy. She won't do any of them. It was just recently that we narrowed it down to one. Picked "more" 'cause she's always hungry or thirsty, and whines at me to get more juice or crackers.

My girls used to sign frequently, but now only sign more, flower, dog. I guess I'm not going to join the signing board since I would give lousy advice, lol! We never officially taught them any signs (only flower and dog), just showed them the Baby Einstein 'My First Signs' video.
