I can't even tell you how excited I am about this switch to a midwife. I finally feel like I am going to have some control over my pregnancy and birth! We meet with our midwife today! It is a bit of a drive, about 35 minutes, but worth every minute! I wil update after the appt. It is at 3pm!

I went yesterday and did the first visit, sort of like the well visit when you first find out you are pregnant! It was very quick and easy b/c I am at the end of the pregnancy! They did do my weight and I think that I have gained like 23 pds so far. That is up a bit from what I was expecting! Up until about 27ish weeks, I was only up 7 pds. But I am ok with this. I don't expect it to go up much more. Plus that appt yesterday was in the middle of the day. I had no idea I was getting weighed and drank a 20oz water while waiitng for them to call me back, I was so thirsty, lol!

The appt went really well! DH is finally fully supporting my decision as he was really pleased too! The midwife was awesome. She asked me about my birth plan (which I almost kissed her for b/c they laughed at my doc office with Kaylee when I asked about a birth plan). She said that I could labor in the water, I could hold Mason right away, I can deliver in any position that I want to and she won't cut the cord until it stops pulsing. She also said that they don't have to take Mason away from me at all. I can give him his first bath and everything. I am really happy with that b/c with Kaylee, they took her away for a few hours and I was so pissed!

Overall, I am so excited about it. I have my next appt in two weeks! She is going to check me then bc of all the BH that I am having, but wasn't too worried about them. She said that if I am having more that 7-8 for a couple of hours at a time, then to call in. That is about all! I finally feel like I am in control of my birth, it is such a relief!

That's great! Are you going to keep your regular OB and have them work together? I'm unfamiliar with this. Does insurance cover a midwife? Are you going to a birthing center?

Cyndee, yes insurance covers them. I am actually no longer going to my OB. Where I am at, in the county that I am in, they will not allow midwifes to deliver. Now that I have started our hypnobabies course, I know more and do not want to go back to a hospital where I might be faced with the same decision that they gave me for Kaylee, kwim? I will still be going to a hospital to deliver, but there will not be a doctor hovering and telling me to induce. we will have more one on one personal touch with our midwife and she will support my birthing wishes The hospital is smaller and is a Womens Hospital that allows midwifes to deliver. The costs are the same though, from what I was shown yesterday!

I was just wondering the other day if you'd had the appointment yet. I hope it goes well today!! I am so pleased I chose a midwife this time around. I drive 40 minutes to their office but it's worth it

Cyndee, she is seeing a nurse midwife, which is just like an OB in what they can do- other than actual surgery. I'm sure your OB office has them too, most do.

I'm thrilled to hear you are please with your midwife and your DH is on board now. That's a big step and I know the hindrance it puts on you when your DH isn't on board with what you want.

Wow right on! I see now you are going to another county so that you can use a midwife to deliver rather than a doctor. That confused me initially.

Glad your DH is on board and you are feeling positive!

Sounds like a great appointment! That's awesome that your DH now understands what you really want out of this birth
