I just got back from my 30 wk appt. Last time 30wks is when they learned that my PIH had gotten severe enough to keep Jack from growing and that he had IUGR. I was definitely apprehensive about today's appt!

Today everything looks AWESOME - no protein in my pee, BP is perfect, I'm measuring on target, baby girl is not in any distress - it's ALL good.

I am SO SO SO relieved!

And I am booking the c-section tomorrow, I think!

Fantastic! What a relief that all is well! My stepsister's first DD had IUGR but her second was a nice normal weight. Last week we booked my c-sect too and got what would have been my grandma's birthday. I have no idea how this belly is going to hold this baby in that long though...I already feel full term size-wise!

That's great Jilly! I'm so happy for you!! Yay!!

Can I ask why you're not trying for a vbac? I know it's not for everyone though..some just don't have a preference.

Sorry I didn't see this reply till now! Whoops!

I had the choice of trying for VBAC or elective repeat c-section - what decided it for me was the hospital I'd have to deliver in. Our hospital here in town has an OB dept but no pediatrics or neonatology or anything to handle baby complications - and all they can do for mom complications is stabilize me and send me to the city for whatever else I need. Dad's allowed to spend the night, it's a really relaxed ward, I know half the nurses here, it's just a really soothing and positive environment. No hard & fast rules, just what feels good for mom & baby. But they aren't equipped to handle any complications should they arise. So if I want to deliver here, I have to have a repeat c-sec.

If I want a VBAC, I'm considered high risk by the provincial health care dept, and I get referred to the huge hospitals in the city. I delivered there last time, where I had to deal with a kajillion different doctors (all of whom gave me different answers and advice), really strict rules and regulations, totally unpersonalized care, and Dad isn't allowed in my room after 7pm. And, the hospitals in the city are just constantly overwhelmed (like, having a baby on a gurney in the hallway cause there's no rooms available.)

It was a hard decision, since I would like a VBAC, but on the other hand, I KNOW I'll be a lot more relaxed and comfortable in our smaller hospital here. It was kind of the lesser of two evils - c-section in the great hospital, or VBAC in the crappy one.

BUT, they did say if my labor starts at 37 wks (my c-section is booked for 39 wks) they won't stop me and will allow me to carry on at the good hospital here. They'll just watch me closely and should anything go sideways, I'll have an emergency c-sec again. So, there is still a chance that I can shoot for VBAC in the week or two before my c-section, and if it doesn't happen, I'll know exactly what WILL happen on the day of surgery!

(And, part of me is attracted to the organized and healthy and planned birth experience after the catastrophe and emergencies and freaking out that surrounded Jack's delivery.)
