At 37wks exactly I started having contrax. They got stronger & stronger and lasted upwards of 45 seconds, then were coming every 7 mins or so. I'd been told that even though I was a scheduled c-sec, to come in if my labor seemed to start. Well, since I'd never been pregnant past 34wks - Jack was a preemie - I was a rookie and believed that was labor.

Apparently not. I went in and got an IV to rehydrate me (they thought I was dehydrated - nah, still peeing like a racehorse) and my contrax got closer together. Finally they gave me morphine, which slowed them down, and I was sent home (in a very crabby state.) For the next 2 weeks I'd have an hour of painful, intense contrax - like, make you bend over gasping for air or jump out of your seat - then they'd taper off, and be over. It. Was. Ridiculous. DH and I decided we were not going back to the hospital until my water broke or until there was actually a baby's head coming out of my vagina.

Neither of those things happened. On Feb 9th we arrived at the hospital on schedule at 6:15am, and I was prepped for surgery. For the record, getting a catheter put in HURTS. Also, having an IV in both hands is a nuisance.

I walked down the hall and cruised into the OR. By 8am I was getting my spinal, which worked like a hot dam* (the last one wore off a little early - ow.) Ruby Teresa was born at 8:39am and had PILES of hair! The anesthetist asked her name and when we told him it was Ruby, turned on his iPhone and started playing "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones right there in the OR. It was a really awesome moment.

The first thing I asked was "is she a girl?!" Everyone reassured me that yes, she was, and she was howling. I started bawling and DH went to snuggle her after she'd been cleaned up, and then brought her to me. I got a 2-3 minute snuggle with her, then he took her outside to meet Jack and her grandparents. I was feeling great and sent over to recovery, and he brought Ruby back and the three of us hugged and had a moment.

I felt great for the next 36 hours, but around midnight on the second night my spinal wore off completely leaving me INSANELY ITCHY for about 10 hours. It was awful. I was given Benadryl that didn't even touch it, and the pain was nothing compared to being itchy everywhere - even my gums and eyelids were itching. Luckily it ended and never came back.

All in all it was not as bad as my emergency c-section but it's not something I want to sign up for again next weekend, or anything.

I'm just so glad she's here and on the outside! It was awesome to have a nice full term baby and just bring her home, even with the hours of itching!

We wanted to name her after my mom, but my mom doesn't like her name (Margaret) and frankly neither did we. My mom told me she always wished her name was Teresa, and we really liked the sound of that with Ruby. So it was our way of naming her after her Nana, even though technically it isn't her name.

The itchies SUCKED. I didn't have that happen the first time, so I was pretty surprised. SO GLAD I won't be doing that again, lol!

Yay! Congrats! Sorry about the early contractions. Sounds awful! I started itching on the operating table. It lasted for 24 hours and stunk so I feel your pain on that one. Ruby is a beauty! Glad she was full term!
