I got a call from daycare yesterday afternoon that Katherine was acting off, was cranky, would scream when put down, and wasn't walking. I went and picked her up and she was not wanting to use her left leg. We took her to the doctor, who in turn, sent us to the ER. They did bloodwork and took xrays of her entire leg and hip and everything came out perfect....except we still don't know what is wrong with her leg. We got home at 2 am this morning, she slept fine, but when she woke up at 7 this morning she was right back to the same behavior as yesterday. The ER told us to carry her today without letting her walk at all and check back in with the pedi this afternoon, but as far as things are concerned it is an unexplained pain that they think should just be monitored.

Would you get a second opinion or wait and see if it is better in a few days? The pedi had said the next option would be an ultrasound at another hospital.

I'd probably want to go ahead and get the ultrasound done. That is really odd behavior, and I would want to know as soon as possible what is going on. KUP on this!

That seems so unusual. I would probably go for the u/s now too. I would want some answers. Maybe wait until you've had a chance to talk to your pedi and if she's still showing the same symptoms, then definitely schedule the u/s.

KUP, I hope she's okay and feeling better soon!

Maybe it's growing pains? My DH remembers getting those, he was older than Katherine but it could be possible. I hope they can figure out what's causing her pain.

Growing pains definitely sounds like a possibility. My DH also remembers having them and really suffering from them. Probably worth asking the pedi about. If it is that, then maybe just some Advil or Tylenol will help to keep her comfortable.

I remember growing pains, and they were awful! Hopefully it's just that, but I would definitely be looking for answers. KUP

The bad part is they don't want us giving her any pain medication because we have to check for fever, hotness, redness, or areas that are swollen at every diaper change and Motrin or Tylenol could mask this. This is in case she has a joint infection.

Yeowch Poor baby.
I would try to get through tonight and if she's still in pain in the morning seek more opinions. How long will you have to monitor for infections before you can treat?

Hi I am from the February 2008 playroom. I just wanted to say that this happened to my daughter a week ago. She came home from daycare and wouldn't walk on her left, she was crawling and limping. I was freaked out but waited until the next day because I called her teacher and she said that nothing happened and she was not complaining at all. When she woke up the next day she was limping slightly but as the day went on she stopped and said it didn't hurt. So, I think it was growing pains because she has been fine since. Just thought I would share because it sounded just like what happened here!

Katherine ended up having Toxic Synovitis. It basically took 4 days before she began crawling and walking again. It was not much fun.

I've never heard of that either and just looked it up. Thankfully it isn't as serious as the name sounds. I'm glad she's feeling better now. That must've been a terrible 4 days to get through.

Well I'm glad they figured out what was causing her pain, will this continue to affect her though?
