We've spent the past few days making pumpkin pies from the pumpkins in our garden, and the girls have been helping - picking pumpkins, carrying pumpkins, cleaning pumpkins, separating the seeds, mixing the batter. They actually did a great job! They were good helpers instead of the usual "helpers".

Then I made the mistake of leaving one of the pies on the counter near the stepladder - Lucy climbed up and ate almost the entire thing with her bare hands. I took a picture, but I don't have it online. She was so proud of her pie, I couldn't get mad. I remember Shelley posting a warning about leaving cupcakes too close to the edge of the counter when you have a preschooler in the house... I should have listened!

How funny!
I always ask Aaron to help me, but most of the time he says no. He likes to do the dishes, though - well, play in the water is more like it.

Lily and Vi have gotten into fresh cupcakes 2x now!

I bake and cook with Lily daily. She helps make breakfast and lunch, plus she likes to help make the dinner salad. Lately, she's been into making pancakes and experimenting with different ingredients (she wanted eggnog instead of milk in them the other day, bananas and cinnamon the next, etc). Usually, it comes out pretty well. Violet likes to stir batter, but otherwise she's pretty content to just watch.

Jackson LOVES to make Jello with my mom, but has no real interested in cooking with me. He's more than happy to eat anything I bake though

Josiah LOVES being in the kitchen! In fact, I was thinking of getting him a little apron as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. He bakes with me, cooks with Dad. Almost every time one of us is doing something in the kitchen, Josiah goes running for his little chair to pull up alongside to "help".

The boys love to help! We made cookies yesterday for thanksgiving. I only really let them help with the batter. Adam watched me bake them off, but I did it while nate was sleeping and had all but one cookie put away when he woke up - I left it out for him and he sniffed it out as soon as he woke up! LOL

Abby always wants to help me with stuff. She runs to get her little step stool and carries it over to the counter to help. I love it.

Yes, both of my kids have always been very involved with making meals and they both loving helping bake. We frequently make muffins for breakfast and then we bake cookies at least once every two weeks. They get very angry, actually, when I make stuff without them!

Jonah LOVES to bake. It is one of his favorite activities. I include him in all of the meal making (even if he is just standing on a chair watching, he says he's "helping") and in addition, I try to do one special cooking activity a week with him. Sometimes it is elaborate, like baking a cake and decorating it, or monkey bread, or we made candy corn on Halloween weekend and he really liked that, and other times it is as simple as brownie mix from a box. We usually make a dessert on Friday, not because I feel the need to have a dessert every week but Jonah gets SO proud of it. When Daryl comes home, the first thing he says is "Dada, I made DESSERT!"

Lisa, that is so funny about Lucy eating the pie! Haha! Well, at least pumpkin is good for her, right? LOL I was going to have Jonah help me make a pumpkin pie and a custard pie tonight, but we ran out of time. Now I have to go make it by myself. It's more fun with him!
