How do you feel about trampolines? Do you have one? Do you let your kids jump on trampolines?
Thea has jumped on a trampoline once when she was real little and I was on there with her, but both her Dad and I think they are really dangerous. Justin is always saying they are a good way to break an ankle (that would potentially hurt his plan for Thea's all-star track/cross country career lol).
Anyways, The has somefriend's that have a trampoline and they wanted us to come over yesterday to play outside and jump, but we were too busy and couldn't go. I think I would let her if I am closely monitoring her, but I also think her Dad might veto me on that so I will ask him before I let her... I guess I will just have to talk to their mom (who is a friend of mine) before we go over there next time if we aren't going to allow Thea on it.
I won't let mine go on trampolines! they look like fun, but the videos on youtube - ehhhhh not so much.

we don't have one because our home owners would drop us. I think they are better for older kids (10+) but I would allow my kids to go on one if it had the outside fence on it.
We will never have one & I'd prefer the kids not to go on. Even w/ the fence or outside netting there are so many opportunities for injury. DH is in complete agreement w/ me. That being said, both his sister & his uncle have them for their kids and Dom has gone on them. But it's only under my or DH's watch & we limit how many other kids are on there & if the kids get too wild Dom comes off immediately.
Jonah jumps on a big one at Play ground world, but there is only one kid allowed at a time on it. It's my understanding that the potential for the ankle breaking occurs when one child springs up causing the fabric to be on the upward recoil, and the other child lands on it then the fabric cannot give because of its state from the first child jumping up- it acts rigid rather than elastic, and the child landing will break their ankle. So I let him go on it alone at playground world, and he always stays in the middle. He has also used small trampolines in his therapy sessions. I agree with Jenna, as long as they are used responsibly then I feel they are just as safe as anything else. I will never own one, nor will I allow my kids to go on it if there are other children, or if the situation seems chaotic.
My kids prefer inflatable bounce houses though!

Thank You, Pattyandthemoos, for my beautiful siggy!
I don't particularly like them. We don't have any friends who own one, so it hasn't been an issue for us yet. IF I was going to let Josiah on a trampoline, it would be under my close supervision, and with very few kids on it at the same time. The times I've seen people get injured, it is always when too many are on the trampoline at once. I would also require the safety precautions (fence, etc).

Not exaggerating, nearly every house in our neighborhood has one or at least more than half do... we don't.
They are extremely popular here.
All have the netting around the outside.
So yes, our kids go on them because all the neighbor kids have them and that's what my kids do essentially every night--play with the kids on our street.
We are thinking of getting one. My only hesitation is only that since so many other of their friends have them, that it won't be appreciated/used as much.

I love trampolines! I spent a lot of time on my friend's tramp when we were in high school. But I was a gymnast and had great control in the air. It would be easy to fall off if you're attempting flips and don't know what you're doing.
My neighbors have one that doesn't have netting around it. The boys know they can only jump on it if one of us is with them. Tyler is scared of it anyway, but Sean has fun just jumping and bouncing on his butt and back to his feet. My neighbors don't enforce the "one kid at a time" rule, so I make sure when my kids are on it there's no one else with them.
If we ever get one, it will have the netting around it, and a rule of one person at a time and only under adult supervision.
I wanted to get a small one with a handle bar, but DH said "too dangerous." =) so I guess a big one is out of the question too. For young kids, I think bounce houses have about the same effect. I'd probably let Aaron go on a friend's large trampoline if there's no too many kids on it already.

Yes I have let my girls jump on friends trampolines I would love to get the girls one when they are a little older but DH won't allow it. I never had one growing up, but some of my friends did and that was always my favorite thing to do when I visited them.
Some of the kids' cousins have one, as do our best friends, so I doubt we'll get one ourselves. Both have nets and coverings for the springs. So far there haven't been any injuries, and the cousins/friends have had them for years. They/we use them responsibly.

We are going over Monday to jump. Justin ended up agreeing with me that as long as she is being watched closely and everyone is being safe then she can go on it once in a while. Like I said, all the girl's are on the small side and there will only be a few of them on it.
I really think she will have fun; she was so little the first time that she doesn't even remember jumping on one before.
Oh Jordin will never step foot on a trampoline again. I don't want to foot the bill for another broken leg! So expensive. She broke her leg while she was jumping on an enclosed trampoline last year while at my brother's house. Don't even know exactly how it happened, but she landed on her leg wrong and it caused a closed fracture near her growth plate meaning x-rays every 6 months while she grows... x-rays aren't cheap either and she flips out whenever she is at that dr's office.
Plus my insurance company kept trying to get me to tell them where she broke her leg at. I was vauge and said it happened on a trampoline. They would've gone after my brother's home owner insurance if I gave the address probably.
Leo got to jump on one this weekend for the first time ever. He had a blast, but we won't be buying one ourselves. He was monitored the whole time and was only on there with his cousin (who is three months younger).
Thea had fun. Learned how to play 'popcorn' with the other two girls. They didn't jump very long before moving onto the sandbox and playset. It was okay with us two moms watching and making sure the girls were careful; they aren't rowdy or anything.
