Tommy had his kindergarten screening today.

It's really a misnomer, because it's not that focused on kindergarten. It's more screening that is done in our school district for kids between age 3 & 4, for vision, hearing, and developmental milestones, to ensure that no early interventions are necessary. On the developmental items, Tommy didn't do as well as I remember his big sister doing, but that wasn't surprising--and overall he still did great. He had to get 18 points to "pass," and he scored 30. (I don't know what the max was... maybe 40?)

He also got measured. He is 43" tall and 49.5 pounds. Still continuing on pace for "above 95%" on both. Just affirms how frequently strangers think he and his big sister (age 6!) are twins! (She's definitely taller than him, but not that much... and I think she weighs 50 pounds! So they are within ~2 inches & 1 pound of each other yet 2.5 years apart! )

Does your school district do screenings like this?

HOLY COW, that is awesome. He is taller and 10 lbs heavier than my 6 year old LOL. But I make small kids.
We have no kindergarten screening or testing. In our town, if you are 5 by Oct. 1, you can go to Kindergarten. The next town over, which is 3 blocks from us, you have to test into Kindergarten and if you don't meet the requirements, they send you to summer school

Sounds like Tommy is doing great! Our district does not screen for Kindergarten, but some of the private schools do.

They do a screening like that for pre-k here, but it isn't until you enroll then in pre-k. Nate won't be going to pre-k this year, he has to be 4 by Aug 31.

I think they do it for preschool in Cleveland. Sean went because he was screened for spec ed preschool. But I'll never send my kids to our local public schools, so I have no idea what they do for K.

The do Head Start (public Pre-k) screening and Kindergarten screenings in the spring here too. Since Thea is staying home with me, we haven't done it, but I know they keep sending postcards in the mail for head Start screening. For the Head Start one, they use the results to place your kid in preschool. We have the main public one and then there are two or three state funded ones at daycare facilities.
Tommy is almost 20 pounds heavier than Thea!

I'm not sure if our public schools do a screening. The school where I work, a parochial one, does nothing for kids coming into 4K, but for those going into 5K that don't do 4K by us they do an assessment of sorts, just to make sure the two classes are somewhat balanced skills-wise.

I just took Aaron for his and it sounds a lot like yours obviously since we live near each other. I would have liked to have waited on it, but Aaron's ECFE teachers kePT pressuring me to get it done. Aaron was 40lb and 42 inches with shoes on. Aaron needed a 14 to pass and he got a 22. It was hard to explain to Aaron what it was all about. He thought the screener (a nurse) was his new teacher and the place we went his new school. We still haven't heard about school for him for next year - Austin's therapist said it will probably be the end of May before we know.
I'm worried about when Austin needs to have it done, but I guess a lot can happen in 2 years.

So glad that Tommy and Aaron did well on their screenings! WTG Tommy, you're a big boy! I think Leigh is about the same size as Tommy, maybe a tiny bit shorter. I'm not sure, it's been awhile since I've weighed/measured her.
