Do you let your 4 y/o chew gum?

Just wondering because a little girl Veronika plays outside with when we wait for Natasha's school bus chews gum almost every day, it seems. She is 4 months older than Veronika. I haven't even given Natasha gum yet and she is nearly 6.

Thoughts?

Yes the girls do. We started when Kate was in speech therapy. She had weak oral motor skills and chewing gum strengthened the jaw muscles. We use an organic healthy gum and the girls enjoy it as a treat once and a while.

Cooper tried it once and hated the flavor so I doubt he'll ask to try again soon!

Nope, I don't think Leah would realize it's something she can't swallow. I can just see her gagging!

LOL Amanda!

The girls see me chewing it, and they ask "are you chewing gum?" ... "yep." ... And they go on about their business. Basically, they never really asked for it, so I never really offered it! I think they view it as "adult people food", kinda like when we were at a restaurant at a family function, and DH was explaining why they can't have the wine that was being offered. lol

Brennan's never had gum. I can see him swallowing (or gagging on) it, too!

They have both had it two or three times, but they swallowed it. So they aren't allowed for a while again.

She has never asked for it or had it. This is most likely because I hate chewing it. I would rather eat a mint. I have TMJ and my jaw hurts so much that gum just makes it worse.

I've only given Mia tiny pieces of gum if I'm chewing any. She doesn't like mint so she usually just spits it out. I'm a bit paranoid about gum though because when my DH was a kid he swallowed a whole pack of gum and had to have an operation to cut it out. He still has a scar from it.

Good grief My mom always told me when I was a kid that if I swallow gum, it will stick my intestines together and I believed her.. Now my DH gets a good laugh out of it. But who knows, maybe there is some truth to it.

Keller's never had gum that I know of. But I suppose if he needed it on an airplane or something I would give it to him. He doesn't like mint (too "spicy") and thats all we usually have since DH is an Orbit addict. I don't really chew much gum.

I was told to give it to Nolan when his speech issues started
Elizabeth started last month, she knows not to swallow it now
