I was going to make Aiden cupcakes for his birthday but I was dark blue icing. How would you go about making dark blue icing?

I would load up regular icing with a bunch of blue food dye (terrible for you...) and use dark purple to darken it up. Another option is to use a blue gel coating on top of the icing'ed cup cake.

I found this but do not know where to buy those ingredients How to make dark blue icing? - Yahoo! Answers

Final option is to hit up your local bakery for a dozen.

Definitely try a gel food coloring. They work much better than the drops.

alll I can say is I made Sam and Elmo cake for his 2nd birthday and to get really red icing took about 3 or 4 red food dyes, it worked but yuck haha I would say dark blue would take the same amount!

I would probably use the gel too; if you use too much of the colored drops it can make the frosting taste off.

The gel makes it taste nasty too.
Are you wanting a midnight blue, or a deep royal? I agree with mixing, either with black or with purple.
