How do you decide whether to keep your child home or send them to school? Obviously, don't mean anything serious here, but i.e. cold, runny nose, cough, very mild fever... stuff like that.

A temp, being sick, the runs are definitely reason for me to keep them home. A little snuffle or runny nose i ask the teacher if its ok for me to take them. I had to pick keeley up this week for being ill

I keep Ethan home if he has a fever, a bad runny nose or bad cough. I can tell when he isn't feeling well enough for school. He just want to lay around. That's so not him. That's when I keep him home. Of course vomiting or diarrhea is another reason to keep him home.

When in doubt I usually send mine to school. They have a nurse, and the school is 1/2 a mile away, so if they continued to feel bad it wouldn't be a big deal for them to just call me to come get them.

I automatically keep them home for fevers, vomiting, and pink eye....

I always wonder about mild fever because when it's something low (i.e. 37.2C/98.9F), I will give them Tylenol to knock it down and within 1/2 an hour, they are back to acting crazy. So I look at them and think, "Ah, you could be in school now doing something productive." lol

I would probably keep them home if they had a fever or were vomitting.
It also would depend on the situation. Ellie will start coughing and works herself into a coughing frenzy. Which is then followed by throwing-up. In that situation I would probably send her to school.

Fever (over 100), vomiting, diarrhea, or hospital/doctor trip for asthma or anything else serious (like if a bad rash looks contagious). I work in the school system and they advise only these reasons, because the absences add up fast. They are great with accommodating colds, coughing, etc. at the schools.
