No one told me that you could pull a stomach muscle simply by getting out of your car. Or that AFTER you have the baby, it takes a lot longer than the 6 weeks you are off work to fit back into your pre-baby work clothes!! LOL.
this is a good post, i'll have to think about this some more cause i had LOTS of "WHY didnt anyone tell me this!?!" momments!!

No one told me that breast feeding might not "take" with the baby. With my first, my son would simply fall asleep everytime I breast fed. I don't know if he got tired of trying (because we may have been doing it wrong) or if it simply pacified him to sleep. I never really figured out why. He did latch on much later but by then my supply was low and I had to continue to supplement.
Will try again with this wee one and hope my bbs were not made to pacify only.

What no one told me was you might have a bm while pushing out the baby!!!! (TMI) It did not happen with me but when I found that out in birthing class with my first daughter, I was mortified!!! I actually prayed that I would not poop!!! I know it sounds crazy but I was so paranoid!!! Yeah, I'm weird.

noone told me the scar if you rip makes certain "positions" *wink* even a long time after giving birth uncomfortable.
noone told me that being pregnant would make my hair fall out.
noone told me that being pregnant can make your nails grow like crazy.

No one told me that in the later stages your belly really pulls to the side when you're laying in bed. Thankfully, after a month of not sleeping well and being in pain I happened upon a wedge pillow that saved me (and DH) during the last month.

No one told me that nesting like a crazy woman actually could mean you will probably be in labor "soonish". I was cleaning when my water broke and continued to clean until DH got home from work to go to the hospital! hehe
No one told me about the inability to control your body temp for the first few days after having the baby. I had 2 comforters, and 3 blankets on me in the middle of July my body temp was so whacked out. Scared DH to death. I was shaking and crying I was so cold.

Warning: TMI!
No one told me about the first poop after delivering whether c/s or vaginally. That is the first time in my life I had ever been constipated. My stomach muscles were useless. I couldn't push becuase of the stitches to my uterus. I banged my head against the wall and woke up the baby out of pain and frustration!
I finally got up the nerve to ask my MIL what the heck I could do to get rid of this poop! I was drinking apple juice and taking a stool softner already. She suggested getting a medicine syringe, putting a little warm water in it and squirting it in there. It is degrading and embarassing, but it worked!
Well, now yall know me a little better dontcha?

No one told me about light incontinence underwear for after the birth. I was messing around with dinky little pads that needed to be changed every hour the first 24 hrs...oh the horror of the mess, talk about adding insult to injury! My second time around another mom to be in my midwife's office told me about them. You still need to change a lot and they are a little pricier but, boy! What a big help.
ALSO, I had more than 25 stitches in my girl parts after DS, talk about pain!! A nurse that saw me just before I left showed me how to open up a newborn diaper and fill it with crushed ice...OMG, a HUGE help for me. (Make sure ladies, that you tell your dr. or midwife ahead of time to give you a little snip if you really need one!)

This has been some really eye opening information for a first time mom-to-be! Thanks for posting ladies.

...and to think I have been stressed about the epideral. The epideral just fell to the bottom of my list of things I am worried about during labor!

I didnt say this... because my mom DID tell me that it would probably happen... for me it happened BEFORE i was really pushing her out...
i was 10 cm but had a little bit of cervix in the way and they did NOT want me to push... but my BODY was telling me to push.... i seriously could not help it... i didnt feel like i had to go to the bathroom at all! but every time a contraction would come and my body was naturally pushing it came out! and at that stage of the game there was no way in heck i was gonna get myself to a toilet..... so one of the nurses got friendly with me.... it was even embarrassing at the time!
but by the time they told me i could push it was gone and i didnt have any more embarrasing moments...
There.. now you know ME a bit better.. haha

noone told me that if you have to pee in the later stages of labor that more than likely the doctor will tell you just to go in the bed. it was like 2 contractions before they were going to have me start pushing so there wasn't time for a dialysis (?) and there wasn't time to get up so they told me to pee in the bed. i was so embarassed. i made everyone leave the room so i could do it.
noone told me that if you're water does not break on its own and you don't have an epidural it hurts like heck when the doctor breaks your water.
noone told me you can break your tail bone while in labor, and that if you do it can take up to 6 months to fully heal, and that it would be the most painful part of labor.
