if you learned what really happened to those cows you would probably change your mind. I dont judge those who eat meat, and will not let them know what happens to meat unless they wanted to know.

that is why I went vegetarian. I had NO idea how much those poor animals go through and how much they are tortured and killed slowly.

so are you vegetarians on any iron supplement or anything? What do you do to make up for not getting all the nutrients during pregnancy??[/b]
I always assumed they'd kill them quick...that is really disappointing that they would make them suffer- is there a reason they would do that? How mean!

thank you all so much!!! you are great

Dont read any further if you dont want to know what happens to meat. It is not meant to offend anyone, just answering someones question.

krystle, the reason animals are not killed as humane now a days is because we consume so much, factory farms are having to kill 300 cows per hour, etc... and unfortunately the techniques used are not immediate and the cows go so fast through the process line they are skinned, etc....while still alive. Its really sad, I had no idea any of that happened til a friend of mine had to do research on stuff, and then I learned way to much, I was hoping it was only certain farms, but unfortunately its all factory farms, which is the meat sold in stores, restuarants, etc..... they have video documentarys of what happens. There is alot worst that happens, but dont want to get to gory.

Anyway, I dont look down on anyone for eating meat, and I hope no one looks down on ppl who do not eat meat.

I want to buy from a local farm, since they do not have to kill so many animals, they make sure the job gets done quick so the animal doesnt suffer. Im sad any animal dies from us, but I do know its a part of life, and someday we will probably be on the bottom of the food chain too.

That is REALLY REALLY awful! I didn't know that they treated them like that. You'd think they could find someway to be more humane about it. I can see why that makes you think twice about picking up a cheeseburger. THAT really makes my post sound insensitive...I'm sorry...I promise I didn't mean what I said in a bad way! I had no idea. It was the blundering thoughts of a naive carnavore....hehe....no hard feelings?

no hard feelings, dont worry.

The Humane Society of the United States is actually trying to pass a bill for more humane treatment of farm animals. It wont stop the way they are killed, but it will make them have free roaming time (factory farmed cows are usually just pent up their whole lives.) that also surprised me.

anyway, it definately wont fix everything wrong with it but its a step in the right direction
