I had to call and check in with the OB this morning to give an update on my condition after my day in the ER yesterday. One of the things I wanted to ask them was if I could have a different prenatal vitamin. I think mine is causing part of my nausea despite my taking it at bedtime etc. I know last pregnancy I went through about three before I found one that really didn't make me nauseaus.
Now side note, when I originally called them at like 6 weeks, sick as dog with m/s, they said.. as long as you can keep that prenatal down and water down the baby is fine.. just sleep.. Ugh. Ok.
So I ask them today, if I could switch to a different prenatal that may not be as hard on my belly. I explain that if they check my chart, the one I ended up taking last time worked well for me. She says "just stop the prenatal until 12 weeks." Um.. but that was what was so important to keep in me before when I was puking up everything else.. now I can just stop taking it? She said Yep just don't take it..
I don't feel right about that. If nothing else I feel its like an insurance policy that my baby is getting some nutrients. My nausea is better but my appetite is still not very good. I feel I need that extra insurance.
So until I see the actual doc end of March, I was going to try some of the OTC prenatals just to see if they make me as nauseas. I was told by a friend that the doc usually prescribes them because they get a kickback from the drug companies for using their pills instead of telling you to go to the store and buy them..
Anyone else try the OTC kind instead of prescriptions?
take two childrens vitamins a day. i've had to do that with all of mine. i took tons of different prenatals, even prescription ones and they ALL made me sick. my doctor told me to take the childrens one and i did and sure enough, i didn't get sick
My sis couldn't keep her's down so she did children's vitamins as well. I use OTC from Sam's Club. They are the only ones that dont give me gas. My doc said that only difference between otc and script now is Omega 3s. Prescription prenatals have Omega3s. So I just eat a little fish during the week or you can take fish oil. I know lots of women who didnt take a prenatal because it made them sick. I feel the way you do though, I feel like I need to take them.
I take the prenatal vitamins with iron from GNC, the bottle says to take 2 a day so I take one in the AM and one in the PM. That way the vitamins are always in my system and doing it this was seems to help my MS since I have a steady flow in me.

Really? Childrens vitamins? Like the Flintstones chewables or whatever? Rock on those things are good! Especially the new gummy type.. Is this what you are referring to? Before my first OB appt I was taking the Centrum daily mulitvitamin and a folic acid to supplement and was fine with that too, so maybe that will be enough..
I am taking an OTC from Vitamin World right now. My GP (who is 6 months pregnants) said they pretty have the same things in them. I have a perscription, but I just haven't gotten it refilled yet.

THATS AWESOME! I LOVE the flintstones vitamins!!!!! YAY! Now I have a reason to feel like a kid again!
My prenatals were making me nauseous, so my doctor said I could actually take two Flinstone vitamins a day, and that would give me the folic acid and other things I need.
I take OTC Kroger brand prenatals plus Scooby Doo chewables. One of each every day. I have been anemic in the past and was lacking iron during my last pregnancy so my dr. told me to either take an Iron supplement or a children vitamin with iron would also work. My body is really sensitive to Iron so I started taking the chewables and they seem to help a lot.
During my last pregnancy I was VERY sick for the first 3 1/2 months. The nurse told me to stop taking my prenatal until I was over the m/s since they were contributing to it. So I didnt really take my prenatals until I was about 3 1/2 months along. I just wasn't able to keep them down.
I take Nature Made Multi Natal. I like it doesnt make me sick. Also Targets brand is good. its small and doesnt have any taste or smell.
But I have heard of taking childrens vitamins instead. Good luck hon.
I take OTC Prenatals from Kaiser..they are pretty good..I take them at night and haven't gotten sick from them so far!
So..is it possible that I take my prenatals as well as the flinstone vitamins? I use to love those as a kid! Good luck sweetie finding one that works! [/b]
I would be cautious with taking both the prenatals and another vitamin as well simply because you can actually overdose on vitamins. It can be dangerous if you overdose, the same as an OD on a drug. Also those Flintstone vits are full of iron as are the prenatals so if you take both, you may end up needing some hemorroid meds too LOL..
I would check with a doc or nurse before taking both just to be sure!!
Try taking them with milk. I take Materna, and with my son I felt sick and would throw up everytime I would take one so my doctor said to try taking them with a meal or with milk so I started taking them with milk and it worked I didn't feel sick at all. I have been doign that with this pregnancy as well and so far so good! it eventually let up at around 6 months but I still continued with the milk thing. good luck!

Yes I would NOT take both prenatals and flinstone. to easy to OD on certain vitamins. Also I have heard that to much iron can actually cause your nausea to get worse.
