Jenna's been doing very well with her food sensitivities; we've even started to wean her off of the Prevacid (*very* gradually, but still, we're making progress). Still, I've decided not to play around with her formula (the disgusting but helpful Alimentum), instead opting to gradually introduce whole milk after she turns a year, and see where we end up.

My question is this: will I need to supplement with any sort of vitamins after making the switch? Formula is so chock-full of stuff, and I know whole milk doesn't have nearly all of that. Jenna's not the best eater when it comes to solid food; we're working on it, and she loves veggies, but she still only takes small amounts at a time. Should I be waiting until her diet of solid foods is way bigger before switching over after she turns a year?

xoxo

Cohen sounds like she deals with a lot of the same issues that Jenna does. We went for her 9 month check up and even though she only weighs 15 lbs the dr talked to us about gradually changing to regular milk since she was on Nutramigen rather than trying to switch her to a milk based formulas just to change her again to regular cows milk a few weeks later (we do not have the option of soy milk due to her thyroid medication). However my dr checks all babies at their 9 months check up for anemia and does a CBC to see if any abnormalities show up (just a finger stick) of course Cohen was anemic, so we will not be changing at this time, we are supplementing with Icar drops for the next 8 weeks. At 4 weeks she will be retested and at that time we will try and switch and then retest at 8 weeks to see if she did ok on cows milk and keeping her iron up. So just to say you might want to look into her iron count to see if she needs supplementation if she gets off formula.
DS had no problems changing from Nutramigen to Soy milk (we did the kids fortified) at 10 months old and he also had his iron level checked and it was normal so we did no added supplementation. At 2 years old we started a regular chewable multivitamin.
I know this seems to ramble but when I was at the pharmacy getting her iron they did have a new DHA, Omega-3 drops that were for infants getting off formula. I dont know much about it so I would have to look into more info before I used them.
Glad to hear Jenna is eating better!

After Jenna is on cow's milk and off the formula she shouldn't need any vitamin supplements. Tristan currently has to take tri-vi-flor vitamins because he's breastfed and the doctor has already told me that we can stop the vitamins once he's on cow's milk because it has all the vitamins he needs.
