So Taylor is almost a year old and we're "attempting" to wean from the bottle. She does fine all day but she CANNOT let go of a nap and bedtime bottle which I understand, it's a source of comfort. I'm pulling my hair out here and I feel kinda down What did you ladies do and how did it go? Also, am I trying to early? I just don't know what to do, PLEASE HELP ME!

If you find out let me know. Haven is 2 and he STILL won't let go of his night time/nap time bottle. Of course it's not formula its regular milk. Sorry I don't have much advice for you. I hope you figure it out! ((HUGS))

My advice would be not to stress about it too much. I remember with my first one I wanted to get everything done (she was potty trained at 19 months) but sometimes it was a big hassle and stressful for both her and me.

It sounds like you've done a great job on getting her mostly weaned and at a very early age too. I would let her have those two bottles until she's ready to give them up.

While I am technically not a BTDT Mom, I did practically raise my nephew until he was 3 so I am going to throw my two cents in. Getting her this far at one is a great step. My suggestion would be to let her hang on to the last two bottles for a little while. It is likely that at some point in the near future she will begin to loose interest in one and/or both of them, and then you can make the break (be prepared for a few rough naptimes/bedtimes even at that point though). At about 1 1/2, my nephew just kind of lost interest, so we cut out the bottle at naptime first (no problems) then bedtime (no problem on the first night). The second night it was like he finally realized it was gone and threw a fit. We had a rough couple of days, but all in all he adjusted pretty well.

My 2 were bottle free by 18 months and we started weaning the bottles at around 12/14 months ~ one bottle at a time. We switched to a sippy cup first to replace the bottle before naps/bedtime. We used Nuby which has a silicone type top that sort of resembles a bottle. I also started to reduce the amount of milk that was in the cup/bottle too and gave more milk at meals and throughout the day.

Good Luck to you! These times can be so tough.

I don't think I would worry about it yet. Sam was a bfer and when we needed to get him off the boob for nap and night we went cold turkey and started giving him a sippy cup of milk instead. He was almost 19 months when we weaned so quite a bit older than your daughter is. But at 2 he still takes a sippy cup of milk at naptime and bedtime and I don't think it's a very big deal at all. We will let him do that until he gives it up himself. If you want her off of the bottle, then my advice would be to just start giving her a sippy cup instead. Sam was mad for a day or so about the change but quickly realized it was the cup or nothing and took the cup.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Mine were weaned from a bottle shortly after they turned one but they went from a bottle at nap and bedtime to a sippy cup at naps and bedtime. I didn't take the cups away until they were 2 1/2

Try putting water into it instead, at least then the milk won't be all over his teeth, potentially causing cavities. The best thing to do, is to never let them learn to fall asleep with the bottle in the first place... I didn't learn that until just before my second child.

O man, I understand how youre feeling, but dont let it get you down. Look at it like this, go with her flow. If she's only stuck on those two bottles, look at that as progress. Eventually, she'll give you cues as to when she's ready to cut out the other bottles. In the meantime, you can offer her the sippy cup instead of the bottle, she'll take it or not, but it will eventually happen. My oldest daughter was weaned off the bottle completely by the age of 2 (it was a hard month for her. I took her off the bottle, paci, and diapers at the same time. I was getting nervous thinking about baby number 2 lol). She handled the bottle great, the paci is another story. Since she had many huge wholes in the nipples of the bottles, I started telling her they were damaged, and telling her we had to prepare for the baby's new bottles, and she accepted it. The only horrible thing was that she didnt care for milk at all after that. Id give her calcium in other ways (ice cream and other dairy products), but its like she couldnt associate milk without the bottle =( That was hard, but we lived through it lol Im now working with my little one, but she doesnt seem to drink milk out of a cup yet, but Im trying.

I think we went thru a half dozen sippy cups till we found one that had a very similar nipple texture to the bottle and we went from there...

Don't pull your hair out though She has tons of time to give it all up

I'm late in the discussion, but are you just trying to get her onto a sippy cup or off the routine of the bottle? If it's just onto a sippy cup, I wouldn't worry about switching over at all. Sucking on a sippy cup does just as much to their teeth as a bottle, so it's really not a step up from a bottle, and if she's using a sippy cup during the rest of the day, then she'll learn how to use a cup eventually! If you don't want the routine of the bottle before nap and bed - just stop cold turkey. It will be awful for a few days, but she'll forget pretty quickly. Either way, I think go at your own pace, at what YOU'RE ready for.

I read that bottles should go away at 1 so I wanted to try to wean DS then but he wasn't having it. I thought "oh well he can have them I guess" so I let him have them. At 17 months he got the flu really bad and he weaned himself. It was too easy. I think you should let her have them for awhile longer and hopefully she'll wean herself soon. Also, when I took DS for his 1 yr. Well Baby appt. the doc asked if he was still having a bottle and I said yeah, and he said that was fine but to start to try to wean him. My son still has a Binky too and I don't know how to wean him from that!!
