If you have more then one child, then your last labor!
And an added question for those with more then 1 kid, how were your labor times different. Like how long was labor with the first, second third and so one?

I labored for 21.5 hours but only dilated to 6, and they needed to just get her out at that point because she wasn't even entering the birth canal.. Oh well..

My labor was 17 hours, all natural, at a hospital. It was wonderful and I'm looking forward to doing it again!

My first daughter was delivered on Dec. 25 2006, I was in labor for 11 hours. I never really felt the pains until it was time to push. I did not even realize I was in labor until my water broke and my mother said we needed to get to the hospital. Once we got there I was already 6 centimeters dialated and then I went to 9 in the next hour or so, and I stayed at 9 for like 5 hours before they gave me pitocin to make my contractions come closer together and about 10 minutes after the pitocin I pushed three times and she was out. I had my daughter without any pain meds because I have a really high threshold for pain, so labor was not so bad.
I delivered my second daughter on August 22, 2008, I was only in labor for about 3 hours because they induced me using cervidal or something of that nature. This was also a pain medicine free delivery My little girl was born at 36 weeks stillborn, but she was 5lbs and beautiful. There was no known reason for her death. They think it was a cord accident. From autopsys and lab work she was very healthy and the placenta was also, there were no conromosome abnormaties or anything.

Shar: I am so sorry, that is so hard.
My first and only lol, Was 3 hours from 1st contraction to birth. Could have been sooner but they had me sit for about 30 minutes before the doc showed up to start pushing. I had no plans of natural with her and had an epi, no drugs, hospital
Will be all natural with this babe

With Logan ( my 2nd) I was in labor 7 1/2 hours with 7 minutes of that being pushing ( he really wanted out!), had him at a hospital, got the epidural

I had my first contraction at 4:26 am. Went to the hospital and had an epi. Progressed nicely through the day but my epi copletely failed. After pushing for an hour and a half he was finally delivered by unplanned c-section at 5:55 pm.
This one will hopefully be a VBAC at the hospital with no meds.

My labor with Kira was right around 15 hours from the time my water broke, but I'd been having contractions for about 2 hours before that. I just picked 10-15 hours though. I wasn't planning to go natural or anything, but I wanted to go as long as possible without any drugs. But after about 9 1/2 hours of back labor (which is torture), and 19 hours of no sleep, I just couldn't do it anymore. I had my epi so they could start me on pitocin (which makes the contractions come faster and harder so you can progress), because I was stuck at 3cm.

My 1st labor was 21 hours, my 2nd was 6 hours and I was induced, my 3rd was also 6 hours with my water breaking just after I went to sleep. The best advice I can give is to try to sit up in a rocking chair or in your bed during labor. Lying down seems to slow things down. My 3rd labor I spent leaning over the bed to allow my belly to hang and I rocked from side to side and that seemed to help too.

I had full intentions of going natural and about 12 hours in I caved and requested an epi. Well it did no work and the anestiologist did not come back until 1 am....so roughly 18 hours without drugs and another 5 with...I then ended up having a c-sec 2 749 am. due to failure to progress. All worth it though. This one I will simply schedule a c-sec.

My advice is to read up on all the different meds & procedures and while it's good to have a general plan, be open to whatever your particular situation might lead to.
I had never thought I'd need a c-section so didn't read about them at all. Guess what? After 17 hours of labor (with pitocin and no epidural...not that I didn't want it but they wouldn't give it to me till I reached 4 cm, which I never did) I developed a fever and the baby was in distress, so I ended up with an emergency c-section. I wish I'd been mentally prepared for that possibility.
Now I'm trying to decide between a VBAC or repeat section.

With my Daughter I went into labor at 530am...got to the hospital..was 6cm... She was a stubborn kid(still is) and it took til 830pm to deliver her...didnt have any pain meds...but had stitches!!
With my son I was induced with pitocin because he had passed away in my belly. that was about 8am. I was offered pain meds but didnt take them...he was born at 8:45pm . He was 25weeks and about 1.5Ibs..have no clue what happened..all i know is the staff was very rude and I wanted to make plans to have a funeral and all but they refused to release him to us..its one big angry story. And I havent a clue what happened to make him pass.
this one hopefully will be all natural also
shar: Im sorry for your loss as well

I was scheduled for a c/s due to a back injury and tailbone fracture I had years ago. I saw 2 spine specialists who both told me I would be risking nerve damage with a vaginal delivery. Not to mention that my tailbone would also have to break for a baby to make it past. I went into labor 10 days before my c/s date so I had the c/s at 37 wks.

With my son my labor was 23 hours. I wanted to do it without meds but ended up getting demerol. With my daughter I was induced and it lasted 4 hours. I also got demerol with her but she came so fast that it didn't kick in until her head was out. LOL

well since i'm the 1 person who clicked 'other' in the question about the epi...
i had a epi...it didn't work, so i felt everything. so i don't count myself as having one. since it was worthless. and i basically had a natural labor.

I chose based on my first baby, which was a 54 hour labor, had some Demerol around hour 32 which lasted a whole 30 minutes, lol. I had a vaginal birth after pushing for 3 hours, episitomy for lack of stretching from a previous surgery I had.
My 2nd was a Cerevidel induction, completely natural of pain meds, labor lasted 7 hours, had a waterbirth, out in two pushes, easy and painless! Tiny tear.
My 3rd was a nightmare! She was posterior, labor lasted around 8 hours, I screamed the entire last 4 hours b/c my midwife had her hands up me trying to get her to turn. No epi, no pain meds, it was too late for them. I tore of course.
My 4th was induced b/c he wasn't moving and I freaked out, looong labor for a Pitocin induction, around 12 hours, didn't feel much but hated being numb, couldn't feel myself breathing. Epidurals just aren't worth it in my opinion. Tiny tear.
The old saying "first births are long, second births are easy, and third births are full of surprises" was SOOOO true for me!

With my birth daughter I was induced with pitocin, got an epidural, labored for 2 days all in a hospital.
With Leila I was induced(due to gestational diabetes-they said she was already over 9 pounds-she was 9 lbs 9 oz!), I had no pain meds at all, in a hospital for about 10-11 hours from start of pitocin going in to delivery.

I had an 8 hr labor from start to delivery. I wasn't sure I was in labor for the first hour! Waterbirth at a free-standing birth center, no meds. No tears, either. It was awesome! I am going for a waterbirth again, but I am considering delivering at home this time.
