When will you start solids (earliest.. or whatever)
Have you considered making babies food?

When will you start solids (earliest.. or whatever)
5 months at the youngest and we will go from there. Nichole started at 5 1/2 months. Never once spit her food out, she was ready for it
Have you considered making babies food? I made all her baby food. Its so much easier then people think and so much better for baby. Plus I really do think because Nichole has always eaten whatever I make for dinner she is NOT a picky eater.

I started Caleb at about 3.5 months and that's becuase he was a big boy and was ready for it.

As for making baby food, nah. I never did that. I didn't have the time mostly because I started back FT after my maternity leave and just didn't have the time. Caleb always ate everything and still does to this day. He eats stuff I can't stand to eat myself.

i honestly don't remember now, whenever the baby book said to. LOL....i guess thats around 6 months...and i did it exactly by the book. i gave him 1 new food a week, to make sure he wasn't allergic to it. etc.

Have you considered making babies food?
yeah, if i was out of baby food and had bananas i could just mash up or whatever. i think jar baby food is great, i don't think its costly. its another one of those things people act like is going to cost you a fortune and it really doesn't. not in my opinion. if im bfing and saving all that cash on formula, i'm not going to penny pinch on .50 jars of baby food.

but its all about what you like to do, and thats not my thing.

When will you start solids (earliest.. or whatever) We will likely start whenever this baby shows all the signs of solids readiness (has teeth, developed pincer reflex, grabs at food, lost tongue thrust reflex, can sit well without support, is ready and willing to chew). DD didn't show a lot of signs until she was one, which was fine because we had planned to delay solids anyway (I have celiac disease and studies have linked premature introduction of solids to the disease). This time I think we'll be a little more lax about waiting for a specific age, but we will still watch and wait for all the signs.

Have you considered making babies food? We don't do "baby food" - just normal adult foods.

When will you start solids: I'm thinking 6 months at the earliest.

Have you considered making babies food? If we do baby food at all I will make all of it. It's not about cost, it's about knowing exactly what they're getting. Although I know many who skipped the baby food phase all together by going straight to solids (usually when you start solids later)

When will you start solids (earliest.. or whatever): I started Ashlyn on cereals at 4 mos., I will do the same with baby #2..

Have you considered making babies food?: I have made all of her food since we began.. so easy!!! We travel quite a bit, and usually just the amounts we need with us.. but we went to San Antonio to visit dh mother a month or so, and decided to just buy commercial baby food when we got there.. BIG MISTAKE!!! She HATED ALL of it!!!!.. she ate it.. but not without a fight and some tears!

We will start with regular food probably around the age of one, until then baby will be exclusively breastfed, I did that with my other babies and it was so darn easy and convenient LOL

We got the go ahead for DS at 3 months but only for applesauce. We waited quite a few more months to start actual solid meals.

I made some of DS's food and bought some. I'll probably do the same for this one. I have no problems with jarred food but I do wish there were more options.

When will you start solids (earliest.. or whatever): I will guage it the same way with my daughter (who is now nine months and only has one tooth). We started her on baby food stage one probably around six months because she started getting interested in what everyone else was eating. We have yet to get to solid/finger foods!

Have you considered making babies food?: My daughter really likes her regular ol' commercial baby food, but this doesn't stop me from mashing up some of the fruit I have for myself and letting her have at it! I will do this for baby #2 as well.

I started at 4 1/2 months with Aislinn. She was ready. By 6 months she was refusing 'baby food' and would only eat table food(soft of course)

I made about 90% of Aislinns food and will do the same again. I'll keep a few jars around for when I'm feeling lazy or going somewhere

hmmm. i don't remember reading 'crud' anywhere in the ingrediants on my baby food jars.

LOL.

i still give my son baby food, he's 2 1/2 and loves some of the veggies. the pediatrician thinks its great and told me specifically - he would rather see kids eating baby food, then parents giving their kids frozen tator tots and the other 'adult' food parents pass off on kids - cuz they'll eat it.

i don't have problems getting my kid to eat anything and have never read anything suggesting there is a problem with baby food. i buy my organic milk too, but the reasons i do that --- have nothing to do with vegetables. there not feeding growth horomones to vegetables. and the chemicals they spray on vegetables, would be on the vegetables i would buy and puree, so how would i avoid that?

not to be rude, but saying baby food is crud, kind of makes me wonder what the point of this thread was? since you obviously don't agree with anything other than your own personal parenting style.

I've always started at around 6 months. Cereal at about 4-5 months and then other solids closer to 6 months. I usually start with store bought and then make my own after that. I found that by giving the baby a pureed version of what we were eating made the transition to "real" food easier later. I could gradually make it more thick till they were eating "regular" food.

wow calm yourself down, there is nothing wrong with jar baby food. I just prefer giving my dd fresh foods. Same reason we don't buy canned veggies. Or at least most of the time.. I do like canned green beans better then fresh.
There are lots of pesticides and stuff in the foods that in baby food jars. There are organic baby foods as well which are better.
I personally have been smacked in the face to many times by commercial products that have hurt my daughter, most kids would be fine. Baby foods are recalled all the time and yet no one knows about it. Just scares me as again, I have seen my own child hurt by things that everyone tells me are safe. There are growth hormones in foods as well.. but that is a totally different issue and had nothing to do with this post.
As far as avoiding chemicals in your babies food, you buy organic. Or grow your own, though I would never be able to do that, I look at plants and they die

When will you start solids: When my doctor suggests it?

Have you considered making babies food? Never thought about it but if it's cheaper and actually easy I would. Sounds like it would be fun.

I waited until Tanith decided she was ready, which wasn't until she was close to 8 or 9 mos, so she pretty much went straight to table food. I just gave her the squishy stuff. I was going to make her food, then never got around to it, so DH bought her some food from Costco and we only ever used about half of the box because she preferred "real" food and would get mad if we were eating something else and she got mush. She's a pretty good eater, but I think it has more to do with getting her dad's taste buds. He is discerning on quality but likes just about anything. Same thing with this babe. Whenever bean starts showing an interest in our food and does well trying it out we'll probably start then.

I will be waiting until 6 months and I will be blw (baby led weaning) I did it with Oli and by passed all the mush, best thing I ever did blw, its fantastic and she such a great eater now.
